"Ouma’s Bakes" is all about love, kindness, compassion for others and having fun. My love language is baked goods - nothing gives me more joy than seeing the reaction when people are enjoying the delicious cookies, cakes, and desserts that I love to make. My other passion is helping our community and providing support to people who need it. In that spirit, Ouma's Bakes is donating 20% of all sales to local charities such as Angel's Arms, Pedal the Cause and St. Louis Food Bank. "Ouma’s Bakes" was established informally in 2014. I previously worked as an executive in the fast paced startup and corporate environments, both in America and South Africa. I started baking and decorating cookies and cupcakes as a way to relax and stay in the moment. Ouma is Afrikaans for "Grandma"! We moved to St. Louis to be closer to our US family, in 2019. My granddaughter, Ryann Elizabeth, was 5 at the time and of course the perfect age to have fun with in the kitchen! I am originally from Cape Town, South Africa - one of the most beautiful places on the planet! In my culture, Love = FOOD, Fun = FOOD and Family = more FOOD. When I say food, I mean mostly meat, potatoes and lots of sweet treats! During the pandemic, I took online cookie decorating classes - which was so much fun, I just had to find more time to bake. What better way to achieve that, than leave the corporate rat race and focus on making people smile? I hope you enjoy these treats and I appreciate your support for our community.
