We haven't had time to process or post about the once in a lifetime event last weekend (we will soon) but we are already cooking for a special dinner tonight! Don't forget we are also set up to bake in our oven this Saturday night 6-930pm and Sunday 12-4pm for the 250th anniversary of the Virginia Resolves!

Months ago, I received an email from seeking some info on a bread recipe from the 18th century. I was happy to oblige when I heard why they wanted to know a period recipe. and his brother James wanted to bake a loaf of bread to honor their ancestor, Francis Moore a baker from Massachusetts. I had researched Francis Moore for the 250th of Bunker Hill last year because he was one of the bakers who supplied the Continental Army in the early part of the war, plus he was also the only undisguised participant of the Boston Tea Party a few years earlier. A little over a week ago and his brother James walked 11 miles from the birthplace of Francis Moore in Cambridge, Massachusetts to his gravesite in Lynn, carrying the loaf of bread, bakers peel and a Tea sack. I am very grateful for them reaching out to me and I'm honored to be a very small part of them paying respect to their patriot ancestor.
I come from a family of researchers and was taught to understand where you're going, you have to know where you come from.

This Saturday, from 10-3 we'll be set up for their Spring Makers Market! Stop by and get a loaf and later a slice of traditionally made bread using 18th century grains! Half of all proceeds will go back to the museum to help repair the Victorian era oven in the Kitchen House!

Thanks to everyone at the Fort Frederick Market Fair for another amazing year. The staff, volunteers, sutlers, campers and guests make this event so special every year. We bake as much as we can, with the time that we have to ensure fresh bread made in the traditional way is provided. Late baking into the evening and up again before light is the Bakers trade!
