The Strongsville Youth Hockey Club (SYHC) is a not-for-profit youth hockey club open to all youth, ages 4-14 in the Northeast Ohio region. SYHC is run completely by volunteers โ the Board of Directors, Hockey Director(s), coaches, and committee members are all volunteers. SYHC is a member of Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL) and a USA Hockey Model Club. SYHC is organized to provide young pe
ople with an amateur hockey development program implemented through skill development and competition. SYHC recognizes a broad range of ability and commitment among its participants and strives to provide the appropriate level of instruction and competition to all. We follow the American Development Model (ADM) which is designed to introduce young skaters to the game of hockey by teaching the fundamentals of hockey. SYHC feels strongly that placing skaters with similar desires and judged abilities together on teams or in similar groups will provide the best experience for all participants. SYHC has been recognized as one of only 19 Model Clubs within the United States due to our dedication in providing the highest quality of instruction within the ADM model. OUR PHILOSOPHY
We understand that winning is important, and that everyone from our coaches to the players and parents wants to be competitive. But we also try to remember that winning a game is not the ultimate goal of youth sports or this club, but a means to an end. That end is the development of each and every playerโs character, their sense of sportsmanship, their skill level and overall love and passion for the game. Our Developmental program is designed so that beginner and intermediate players can enjoy the sport of hockey in a controlled, competitive, fun environment, while improving individual and team skills through practice and games. Our more advanced players have the opportunity to play at their level, up to the AA division within the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League. SYHC believes that players who play with others of similar ability are able to improve their individual skills, and learn more about teamwork and the game of hockey, because their coaches are teaching a team of players who can all execute and understand at relatively the same level. Overall, regardless of which level a player participates in, SYHC aims to create a โHockey Learning Environmentโ that develops not only the players but also coaches and even parents in the sport of hockey.
