BAKER NEEDED FULL TIME - We have a couple of openings at The Bakery in Steamboat. We are looking for people who will fit in with our baking family. We have been growing consistently over the years, and have been growing through the Covid-19 situation. As we get ready to start making more products for our increased summer business when our restaurant clients start re-opening more fully, as well as adding production for the Farmer’s Market , we need to find a couple of good people to add to our team.
We are a 100% from scratch bakery, using no mixes or pre-made products. We bake bread for health food stores as well as restaurants; working with traditional Sourdoughs and French breads, Ciabatta, Brioche buns, Croissants, flavored Croissants, Cookies, Brownies, Cinnamon Rolls, Babka, Kanelbollen, and other pastries. We use local eggs, non-RBST milk and butter, cane sugar, and unbleached or organic wheat flour. Our Sourdough is baked daily and is a traditional long-fermentation process with no commercial yeast.
An applicant needs to be able to work on their feet for an entire shift (less breaks), be able to lift and work with 50 # bags of flour, follow formulas and procedures consistently, and show up for their scheduled shifts. Since we are a wholesale bakery, we start at either 7 or 8 in the morning, and try to be finished by 4 or 5 in the afternoon. We are baking 7 days a week, so your shift may be Monday through Friday, or it may be Saturday through Wednesday, or maybe something else, depending on what we work out. You will be working with people who enjoy their job, leave work happy, and participate in a busy yet low stress environment. It is completely different than working on the line in a restaurant.
Experience is not needed, since we will train you in how to follow our formulas and train you in the techniques we use on the bench. That being said, commercial bakery experience will help you move up faster in the company. This is a permanent, year round position.
