We love these classic builds with timeless style.

This OO-SP Custom features an upgraded Adirondack Red Spruce top paired with beautifully straight-grained East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Traditional appointments include a slot head, pyramid bridge, and a simple abalone rosette that perfectly complements the tasteful abalone torch inlay on the headstock.

Elegant, understated, and built to make music for generations. Headed to Northern Lights Music () in New Hampshire.

There’s Cocobolo… and then there’s Cocobolo. Wow!

This OO Custom heading to Acoustic Music Works ()is all about the wood. A one-of-a-kind bearclaw “Blue Denim” Sitka spruce top sourced from an old Alaska floating log camp, paired with absolutely stunning Cocobolo back and sides.

The tone is every bit as rich as the looks — deep low end, glassy trebles, and that unmistakable Cocobolo shimmer.

The rest of the build supports the look of the wood with figured Maple bindings, matching Cocobolo headstock overlay, and nickel Waverly tuners to finish it off right.

This custom DS-12 Fret is a beautiful guitar featuring two incredible reclaimed woods.

The top is old-growth sinker redwood, finished in a stunning custom sunburst. We paired it with extraordinary back and sides: sinker maple salvaged from the Stillaguamish River in Washington state.

If you’ve never experienced a Huss & Dalton 12-fret short scale, it completely redefines acoustic comfort and power. Joining at the 12th fret pushes the bridge right into the lower bout’s “sweet spot,” delivering a huge, rich voice that responds instantly to the lightest touch but has the headroom when you want to dig in. Paired with the reduced string tension of a short scale, playability becomes absolutely effortless.

This river-salvaged maple brings unexpected warmth and harmonic complexity that perfectly complements the redwood’s dark, sweet sustain. A true masterpiece available today from The Fretted Buffalo!

The Albert Lee Signature MJ Deluxe
Albert Lee has long been one of the most respected players in guitar history. From his work with Emmylou Harris to Eric Clapton and The Everly Brothers, his touch, speed, and unmistakable right hand changed the way a lot of players think about flatpicking and country guitar. Effortless feel, incredible precision, and always musical. That’s why a guitar carrying his name is something special.

Bear-claw Sitka spruce top paired with quilted maple back and sides gives this one a striking look with all the snap, clarity, and power you’d expect. Maple neck, koa bindings throughout, custom koa pickguard, and a trans-black finish that ties the whole build together perfectly.
Built to Albert’s preferred 1 11/16” nut width for that fast, comfortable feel. Finished off with gold Waverly tuners with ebony buttons for a little extra class.

You may not pick like Albert Lee, but this guitar gets you one step closer. Give Down Home a call for a chance at this rare guitar!

Honored to be asked to speak at Shelburne Middle School about alternative careers. I should have led with “Stay in school or you may end up building guitars!” 😆

Truthfully, nobody ever told us jobs like this even existed when I was in school. I took woodworking every semester in high school because it was the one class that just clicked with me. I still went to college, but in the back of my mind I always felt pulled toward building things with my hands.

I didn’t even know guitar building was a real career until I spotted a tiny classified ad in the back of Acoustic Guitar Magazine years ago. One little ad changed everything. It felt like somebody turned on a light and opened a door I didn’t know was there.

It also reminded me how important shop classes and music programs really are. Too often they’re treated as less important than academic classes or viewed as a place for kids that “don’t fit” the traditional mold. The reality is those classes are where a lot of students discover who they are, what excites them, and how they learn best. I sang in choirs and played trumpet for 16 years and those programs are often seen as less than.

Not every path looks the same and that’s a good thing. Some kids are meant to build, create, design, repair, play, or work with their hands. Those programs matter because sometimes all it takes is one class, one teacher, or one small spark to completely change the direction of someone’s life.

If you’re a student…or an adult, dive into the things that interest you and see where they take you. You never know what door might open.

Two great guitars sharing some DNA, but built for very different voices. It’s been a cutaway month around here and somehow every single one has had its own personality.

On the left is a classic CM 12-Fret Custom heading to Organic Sounds Select Guitars (). Bearclaw Italian Spruce over heavily figured Sapele Mahogany makes for a guitar that is just as impressive visually as it is tonally. Rich, open, responsive, and impossible to walk past without stopping. Flamed Maple bindings frame everything beautifully while smooth Waverly tuners finish the build perfectly.

On the right is a stunning FS Custom headed to Eddie’s Guitars (). The certified 3,758 year old Ancient Cypress top immediately grabs your attention with both its look and voice. Paired with an oversized soundhole, this one has incredible openness and projection with a quicker, more immediate response that really fills the room. Truly alive in the hands.
Deeply figured Claro Walnut, Flamed Koa bindings, Ziricote fretboard, peghead and bridge, plus hot hide glue bracing for the final chef’s kiss.

Two completely different personalities from a similar platform but both incredible in their own right. Enjoy.

We’ve had a unique opportunity at the shop this week with two different CM models heading out the door!

👈 On the left: A classic CM Standard built with an Engelmann Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. It delivers a beautifully warm, responsive tone with rich, singing overtones. We are thrilled to send this one to our new dealer, Tree Bone Guitars, right up the road in Fredericksburg, VA. Welcome to the family!

👉 On the right: A striking CM Custom that comes with an incredible story. The top is a subtle version of “Blue Denim” Sitka Spruce, salvaged from an old floating logging camp in Alaska. Years of iron spikes reacting with the wood and the water created this completely one-of-a-kind look. Paired with some beautifully wild-grained Indian Rosewood, this build came together just right. It’s heading down to our great dealer, Guitar Tex in San Antonio.

Two gorgeous guitars with two distinct voices, but sharing the exact same Huss & Dalton DNA. You really can’t go wrong either way!

This OO-SP Custom heading to The Fretted Buffalo () immediately stands apart visually with a sinker Century Cypress top. Defined by the strong, linear striping and a warm, natural color that lends a unique visual and sonic texture.

Around back, the sinker Mahogany is exceptional, featuring rare, ribbon-like figuring with a depth and movement that shifts beautifully in the light. Not something you come across often in sinker material!

A slotted peghead and traditional appointments complete the build, keeping everything clean, classic, and in line with the instrument’s character.
Light, responsive, and articulate with a surprising depth of voice for its size. This one delivers just as much sonically as it does visually.

It’s been a long time coming on this one.

Our good friend Michael over at Relic Music Shop (Relic Music) in Red Bank, NJ ordered this Meridian a while back, and we finally hit its build slot. Totally worth the wait.

He was chasing that old faded burst…you know which one we are talking about. The kind that’s spent years under light and settles into that greenish/yellow hue. Our color master, Ignacio, matched some reference photos that Michael sent our way and dialed it in perfectly.

• Lindy Fralin Modern PAF pickups
• Brazilian rosewood fretboard
• Cream appointments to tie it all together

The tone is there, the feel is right, and the looks speak for themselves.
