If you know me, at all, I’m a big believer in celebrating ALL the birthdays ! Every single one means that you made it through another 365 days. In life, I believe it’s important to celebrate every one of them. And in business, I take absolutely nothing for granted.

When I started thinking about what kind of celebration I wanted to have, I knew it should be centered around an elevated version of an 8 year olds birthday party:
So think Fancy Nancy, but grown up.
We will have a tea party style refreshment area.
There will be 8 gifts for you guys to get, boutique specials, AND we are combing our birthday party with adult trick or treating !!!!!!

Eight years ago today, I made one of the most scary decisions of my life:
I signed the papers to buy Totally Tan in Statesville.
It was a business with over 30 years of history downtown, and I had the bright idea to buy it, renovate the building and create a full service salon.
Did I mention that I had absolutely no clue what I was doing ? Or that I was about to get divorced ? (Which I didn’t know at the time) And that I definitely didn’t have enough money to manage what was to come ?
Looking back, there were points in time nearly every month for the first three years where it could have gone off the rails….. actually, that one time, the rails disappeared and I felt like I was just holding on.
I started Zealous with a whole lot of prayer, the wish to create something that didn’t yet exist, and the delusion that I could figure it out. Bc really ? How hard could it be ?
Today, eight years later, aside from a hand full of ceiling tiles and 2 small rooms, every surface of that building has been overhauled…. At least once. We have created jobs for over twenty people. We have seen thousands of clients. We have built relationships that are some of my most precious. And I currently have the best team of my career.
Oh yeah, and in the midst of all of this I decided that going to hair school during the pandemic made perfect sense, and I found my calling.
I didn’t allow myself to celebrate for a few years after opening. I was so afraid it would fail. I was so afraid I would fail. And even now, I don’t post about the wins very often. I kind of hold it all close.
But today, I am here to say, if you have a dream in your heart and it just won’t let you go….
Say yes.
Say yes to the thing you keep thinking “what if” about.
Say yes to that little voice that keeps popping up.
It was one of my top 5 most scary decisions I’ve ever made. It changed my life completely. And I cannot imagine doing anything else.

We have had weeks of fun activity here in the salon.
The Full Bloom film festival was two weeks ago.
Fall Art Crawl was last weekend.
9/25 has a lot of folks outside for our neighbors at Apex Outdoor Sports LLC Dolly event and tomorrow is Statesville Pride !
Even more events are coming up for October.
The “ber” months are so much fun in Downtown Statesville

When you’re out and about this fun season, come by and say hi to us and shop our sweet little boutique. We have some phenomenal Halloween ts and cute transitional clothes and accessories.

Don’t forget that the holidays are approaching.

To say we are excited about today is a large understatement. We are THRILLED to welcome Lauren and Patrick Harris into the salon today as our artists for the Downtown Statesville Art Crawl.
They have incredible work for you to enjoy and purchase. We will be serving up fall inspired cold brews….. if it’s hot outside, at least we can drink something that tastes like fall !

Today, Friday 9/18, we are CLOSED !

Why, you ask ?
Oh. It’s just our birthday party 🥳

Not the salon’s birthday, but our .
All seven of us have birthdays between 6/30 and 10/13. We decided it would be fun to have one BIG birthday celebration for all of us at once.

Are you just a teeny bit curious about what we are doing ???? I’ll bet you are.

We will share all about it next week. For now, we are in full party prep mode and have only a couple hours before the fun begins.

We will reopen for clients tomorrow at 9, and then we have FALL ART CRAWL from 2-6! Come say hi tomorrow and see all of our local art as well as our brand new fall and Halloween designs !

I know it’s the first weekend of September, BUT……

I cannot help myself. Our new Halloween ts are here, and they’re SO MUCH BETTER IN PERSON !!!!!!
These will be coming out and into our little lobby boutique this week ! We have prided ourselves on having the cutest Halloween collection since we started our boutique 4 years ago.
Trust me when I say, this is our best to date !

We will be sharing individual short designs this week as we flip our boutique to Halloween time !
