Lately I’ve been thinking about how much time we spend talking about people we don’t know…public figures, scandals, controversies, opinions stacked on top of opinions. And how little time we sometimes spend praying for the people God has actually placed near us.
When Jesus tells us to “pray for your enemy,” He isn’t only talking about someone who has personally harmed us. Biblically, an enemy is anyone who is still at enmity with God…anyone who does not yet know Him, love Him, or live under His lordship (Romans 5:10). That includes strangers, critics, people we disagree with, and people we’re tempted to talk about instead of pray for.
Scripture reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12). The problem is not personalities, platforms, or politics. The problem is sin and the only answer to sin is Christ.
That’s why quiet prayer matters more than loud commentary.
That’s why loving our neighbor matters more than dissecting headlines.
That’s why the gospel belongs first on our lips, not gossip.
The Word of God was never given to help us win arguments.
It was given to shape us into people who look like Jesus.
So instead of talking about them, let’s pray for them.
And instead of being consumed with what’s wrong “out there,”
let’s be faithful with the people God has placed right in front of us.
“Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
— Matthew 5:44
I truly believe revival begins here.
