Hey everyone! A quick update on our progress as we work to secure our future at the corner of Grand and Wyoming. Currently, we are focused on putting our construction loan together; the building needs significant work and the task seems daunting at times. Fortunately, there are many talented trades people in this city and y’all seem to believe in our little shop! The Orpheum has made the difficult decision to close their brick and mortar operations and to continue their alterations business from home. While this is disappointing on many levels, we have decided to make the best of it and are planning on transitioning the Gelateria to just one floor. This is a long and slow process, so please bear with us as we embark on this phase of our journey. Here is a photo of a croissant that Andy made at a viennoiserie class at the SFBI…

“If anything, what this has shown me is that the Gelateria is so much bigger than just a cafe, people need this, I feel a real responsibility to rebuild the Gelateria, in this building. We need places to gather and organize, now more than ever.” -Andy (paraphrased by Caitlin, the social media boi behind these posts)

We’re looking at a year and a half process of rebuilding. The only reason we’re able to face the coming hurtles, impossible decisions, and endless work is because of the support you offered us. Instead of being frightfully in debt, we’re staring at square one. Your donations covered our Q1 taxes, a supplemental income for the team, outstanding invoices with venders, and a slew of other boring financial responsibilities of running a business.

Terrifying as it is, we’re filled with gratitude that we’re able to consider keeping this dream alive. You did that. You are the Gelateria.
