A Small Batch

A Small Batch a small BATCH is a family of creative projects
arts & crafts & cakes & poetry The art I make and the writing I do is the playful making that grounds me. PST.

I believe humans are innately creative, joyful, playful, and curious; and that those are among our most valuable attributes. At the core of everything I do with a small BATCH are the twin projects of connecting to my own creativity and supporting others in connecting with their creativity. Supporting others in their own creative practices invigorates me. I’m a poet, a fiber artist, a teacher, and

a maker. After owning and operating a bakery (BATCH bakeshop) for eight years, where I also taught baking classes, I’ve most recently worked for an arts organization with a focus on connecting artists to resources and support. I'm currently sharing my love of poetry on Small Batch Poetry on TPG Radio, the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. You can find my fiber art & other creative projects on my website. In addition to offering one-on-one support for artists & creatives, I'm also teaching online classes & send out a weekly newsletter.

Trying the 'Hang it on the wall and live with it a bit' method to help see if this feels "done" or not. Loving these chunky recycled cotton cords from ! The trick is making something I think lives up to the stick I build it on. 😁 (Although it does feel great to use up some of my stick collection, I was starting to feel like a Labrador with a hoarding problem.)
This is another piece headed to later this year!

Our Story

BATCH bakeshop is closed! After 8 years of running my own business, I’m excited to be moving onto new jobs, creative projects and adventures! I don’t think any two years of this business were the same, I was always growing and condensing, shifting and changing the business in different ways. Thank you playing along! I’m so full of gratitude for all the ways you have loved, supported, and enjoyed BATCH over the years. I’ve got giant hearty-eyes for everyone that ever bought a cookie at the farmers market, trusted me with making your wedding desserts, stopped by the bakeshop, supported my Kickstarter, enjoyed BATCH treats at a local coffee shop, came by for one of our pop-up events or brunches, took a class, liked an Instagram post, read my newsletter, or supported me in one of the million other ways I was supported by this amazing community over the years.

But what’s going on in the bakeshop space? A fantastic local baker, Callie Johnson, is getting ready to open up a retail bakery, Made With Love Bakery. Callie has been selling delicious pies and other treats at area farmers’ markets for the past two years and has spent the first part of this year getting set up doing wholesale baking for some great local coffee shops. Now, she’s making the bakeshop her own space and preparing to open for retail in June! I’m so excited to have a baker I enjoy in this space that was so meaningful to me. West Central, and all of Spokane, get ready to enjoy and support a new delicious business!

But, wait, are you really done baking? Yes, at least commercially. I’m enjoying doing novel things like baking one batch of cookies or a single pie. Although I haven’t been active there this year, I will be hanging onto my instagram account, A Small Batch, so keep an eye on that if you’d like to see what I’m up to with my personal baking and other food related creative projects! (Or find my personal account for some poetry and some arts stuff--I’m now working for the arts non-profit Spokane Arts--but mostly pics of food and plants and places I like to go, if you’re into that!)

Cheers to changes big & small!
