A very Important Sassy Mama Sweets announcement you don’t want to miss...❤️
After almost twelve years, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close the storefront of Sassy Mama Sweets & Eats.
If you would like to stop in Saturday 8/15 it will be the last day that you can grab a treat without putting in an order. (I will make a future announcement with details on future ordering)
There really aren’t words that make it easy to explain. Because-this didn’t come from one single thing.
As many of you know we were baking like gangbusters from the moment we opened our doors in 2014. Then the pandemic changed everything. The economy that followed made running a small business harder and harder. The cost of doing business keeps rising exponentially.
Last year I lost my mom. The Beloved Sassy Gram to all of you. My husband lost his mom. It really put things into perspective. There have been so many other losses and struggles that I’ve mostly kept to myself.
And while all of that was happening, I was also quietly dealing with medical issues that cause extreme pain throughout my body.
Most people never knew that part.
You saw me at the counter. You saw the cakes, the pictures, the smiles, the finished product. You saw me showing up.
You didn’t see the days when just getting through the day felt like it took everything I had-and then some.
I kept pushing though.
Because that’s what I do.
Because people were counting on me.
Because there was always another order, another birthday, another wedding, another achievement that needed a special cake.
And because I truly love what I do.
But I’ve reached a point where I have to admit I can’t keep doing things at the volume that I have been.
And with all of that aside-
I am incredibly grateful.
To every person who has ever walked through those doors, placed an order, recommended me, shared a post, left a review, or supported this little shop in any way. I’m incredibly grateful for every single laugh, hug and handshake. I’m incredibly grateful for the tear filled moments too. The shop was so much more than a business to me. It was the place that I truly connected with so many of my customers. That alone will be the very hardest part to let go of.
You trusted me with so many of your special moments.
From a gender reveal all the way to helping honor your loved ones at the end, and every moment in between. Food has always been my favorite way to show love. That will never change.
I’ve been lucky to be part of so many of your lives.
And one of the most unexpected gifts of this business is how many of you came in as customers and became something more.
Real friends.
People I never would have met otherwise.
That’s something I’ll carry with me.
This isn’t necessarily goodbye to Sassy Mama.
I don’t know exactly what the next chapter looks like yet.
Right now, I need to breathe. I need to take care of myself and my family. I need to figure out what my body can handle and what makes sense moving forward.
I will keep you updated on when, where, and how Sassy Mama may pop back up. ❤️
For anyone with an existing order:
I will be making your order.
I am moving those orders to a different commercial kitchen, and I will personally reach out with any details you need.
Please don’t worry about your cake. I’ve got you. ❤️
If you have questions, please text the shop phone at 860-329-1101 or message me on Facebook and I will respond as soon as I can.
And finally…
To everyone who has worked so incredibly hard to keep the shop running through every season of the last almost twelve years:
You know who you are. You know that you will forever hold a special place in my heart. You know that I will forever and always be here for you as you have always been for me.
You made this more than a business.
You made it a place full of memories, connection, and meaning I never could have built alone. We shared so many of the silliest, sometimes sad and sometimes never ending days. I will cherish every single moment we spent together.
The storefront is closing.
But the love, the friendships, the memories, and a little bit of Sassy Mama magic…
That stays. ❤️
With a heart full of love and gratitude for each of you,
Lori D.
