The three little words I love hearing most are “full creative freedom”.

When designing for clients, I always start by asking what inspires them. Sure the floral arrangements and centerpieces are beautiful, but I want to know what really makes their hearts flutter. Is it a painting in a beautiful museum? Is it a row of colorful, stucco houses found in a far away land? Or is it simply the opaque green of raw emeralds? For this design, Impressionism, the iridescent sheen of duck feathers, and a sprawling rose garden where the couple were wed were the catalysts.

Wherever beauty is found, I find inspiration is there in abundance too and these unconventionally inspired designs always turn out to be my favorites.

Earlier this year I was challenged to create a piece of art that combined the things I love- rococo art and the macabre, and what could be more perfect than an entirely edible bust of beheaded Marie Antoinette?! Sculpted from marshmallow rice treats, cotton candy, cake, and .ice fondant by yours truly. I love her!

Sure weddings are cool, but have you ever made a cake for Missy Elliott?! Feelin’ supa d**a fly after representing the 757 and my town last night at the Renaissance Hotels. Amazing event with even more amazing guests.

Congratulations, Missy, on your namesake street, Missy Elliott Boulevard, getting your very own appreciation day, and receiving the key to our wonderful city!

Thank you to my amazing team, my community, my town, and to God, but most importantly to my Mamaw, Margaret Lewis for teaching me to bake with love. My dreams couldn’t come true without each and every one of you. So humbled last night by how blessed I am to be where I am today. I still can’t believe it.

I’m absolutely reeling with creative energy after spending two days at learning from the incredible Helena Simões of .atelier in London over the weekend.

Helena‘s creative techniques and out-of-the-box approach forced me out of my pretty little comfort zone, allowing me the freedom to design something truly unique and just me. Oh, and all of these elements are edible.

I feel incredibly blessed to have even been in the presence of two artists I highly admire and I cannot wait to return to the studio and pour my reignited passion into my future works.

When designing for E&M, I knew that their wedding cake had to be a combination of the two things that come to mind when you meet them- classy and glamorous. Layers of lace and ruffles overflowing with handmade sugar flowers pulled it together in one show-stopping centerpiece that we hope they loved as much as we did. Congratulations E&M!
