Hello early risers and bagel lovers! We are looking for a bread/bagel baker with a positive outlook who is ready to learn and contribute as a team member to our stellar Bread Kitchen crew. Duties include all aspects of the bagel bake, including scaling, shaping, handling, and managing dough; boiling and baking our delicious bagels, as well as some baking of our seasonally-based assortment of artisan breads and baguettes. While some commercial baking experience is preferred, we are happy to speak with someone looking to advance into commercial baking.

This is a part-time position 3-4 days per week with flexibility of days but must include one weekend day. Hours are 3 a.m. - 11 a.m.

We offer very competitive wages, PTO, sick pay, health, dental, and vision insurance (including a HSA option) for full time employees. Other benefits include: birthday pay, a birthday cake of your choosing, VIP access to bagels and bread, pooled tips, and all the on-site coffee/snacks you can handle. We make incredible sandwiches both for breakfast and lunch, quiche, salads and so much more…this is great opportunity for a creative team player who loves food and community. Ideally we are looking for full time Wednesday through Sunday but part time is an option….weekends are required. Hours are 6am - 2pm.

I don’t - at all- have the right words to address the horror happening in our country and in our community right now, everything I try to write feels trite, mildly hysterical, too much….maybe not enough. There is a deep sinking pit of despair that lodges itself in my belly every time I type out a sentence that tries to sum up the outrage and frustration. But here is what I have:

Since we opened in 2004 our values at the bakery have been rooted in community, love and food. We have always held that during the hardest times we hope to provide a small port in the storm where there are smiles and something good to eat and/or drink. For us…. baking for you…. is what brings meaning and connection. With this in mind we will be open on Friday January 30th and we will be donating 100% of our daily sales to , and , three organizations that are working directly to aid the immigrant community here in Maine.

We fully support all of our fellow businesses who will be closed for the strike and It is our deepest hope that all of our collective actions will push the needle forward in getting ICE out of Maine and help us all work towards a future that celebrates a diverse vibrant community. #2016….as a semi oldster I don’t quite get it but I LOVE it.

The holiday season has passed but this video from Christmas Eve 2016 says everything. The running carolers made us cry every year. If anyone wonders about the heart of Scratch this is it.

We’re now in a time where heart, love, peace and community matter more than ever. It’s hard to hang on when the basic rights of human beings are being trampled on; at every juncture these days it’s hard not to feel anxious, angry, sad, defeated and afraid. As a bakery we can’t fix it but we can provide support and a safe place where simple sustenance gives energy to all that need it.

Hello! Tis the season of sparkly lights, crunchy snow and festive cheer. We are headed into the next few weeks ready to bake for you! Our holiday menu (link in bio)is up with several options:

*Pre-order bagels!!!!! Yep you can pre-order bagels for Monday and/or Tuesday December 22nd and 23rd because we will be there OPEN!! We’re selling them in multiples of 4 to make packing easier for us and pickup will be after 9 am both of those days. It’s a perfect opportunity to stock up for Christmas ahead of time.

*Our Christmas Eve menu is up too! All the coconut cakes, coffeecake, bobka, dinner rolls and more that you can imagine. We will NOT have bagels available for pre order on that day but will be doing a MAX bake.

*We are also stocked with baking classes!!! Bagels 101, Rye Not, PretzelFest and more. The perfect gift!

Then we’ll be taking a cozy winter nap and are CLOSED Dec. 25th - Jan 1…reopening on Friday Jan. 2nd.
