This garden has been humbling me this year.
For the first time, I’m dealing with problems I’ve never really had before. Pests nibbling holes in leaves, diseases creeping across stems, plants that looked so promising one week and then wilted the next. Some mornings I walk the rows and catch the sharp smell of damp soil after watering, the sweet scent of basil brushed by my hand, the rustle of leaves in the breeze, and the low hum of bees moving from blossom to blossom. Gardening has a way of reminding you that no matter how much you learn, there’s always more to learn.

It’s easy to wish for the perfect garden the one with no weeds, no bugs, no blight, no loss. But then I remember… if we had our Eden here, we wouldn’t long for Heaven.

The thorns catching my skin, the dirt under my nails, the sweat running down my back in the heat, the disappointment of finding chewed leaves or a plant bowed over in defeatall of it reminds me that this world was never meant to be our forever home. Even the sound of a shovel biting into the earth, the crack of dry stems, and the sight of an imperfect harvest in my hands point my heart toward the day when creation will be fully restored.
Until then, I’ll keep planting, keep learning, keep trusting, and keep praising God for every tomato warm from the sun, every sunflower turning its face toward the light, and every lesson He grows in me alongside the garden.

🌱 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” — Galatians 6:9

This morning I found myself looking my tomato’s and thinking about how much they remind me of the work the Lord does in our own hearts.

A garden left untouched will grow wild. Vines stretch in every direction, leaves become crowded, and energy gets spent on growth that may never produce fruit. Sometimes the gardener has to gently cut back what is unnecessary so the plant can become stronger and bear more.
🙋‍♀️ Ope
The Lord lovingly prunes away the things that distract us, the habits that don’t produce good fruit, the things that take our attention away from Him. The pruning can feel uncomfortable, but it is never without purpose.

And as parents, we get to participate in that work with our children. We prune… not by breaking their spirit, but by guiding them. Teaching patience. Correcting selfishness. Cultivating kindness, humility, obedience, and love. We remove the weeds so their hearts have room to grow.

A good gardener doesn’t prune because he dislikes the plant. He prunes because he sees what it can become.

“Every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” — John 15:2

May we be willing to let the Lord tend our hearts, our homes, and our families. May we trust His hands even when the cutting back feels hard because He is always preparing us to bear better fruit. 🍃

☀️ Hot Weather Notice + Egg Availability 🥚

Hi everyone! With the extremely hot temperatures this week, I will not be placing eggs out in the cooler for the farm stand.

Even with ice packs, I want to make sure everything stays safe and fresh for your families, and that’s my top priority.

I do still have 6 dozen fresh eggs available this week (plus a couple extra dozen here and there). They are kept safely stored and ready for pickup.

📍 Located just north of South Bend
📩 Please message me directly if you’d like to grab some and I’ll set them aside for you! 574-303-4990

🌱 Have you heard about Homestead Indiana? 🌱 https://www.homesteadindiana.com
I’m so excited to share this amazing resource with you! Homestead Indiana is a place where you can discover local farms, farm stands, and homesteads across our beautiful state. It was created to help connect people with local growers, makers, and families who are bringing fresh, homegrown goodness to their communities.

I’m excited to share that The Homestead Hymn is officially registered as a farm stand on Homestead Indiana! 🥰 From fresh baked goods and garden produce to farm-fresh offerings, we love being part of a growing community that values local food and supporting small farms.

One of my favorite features? You can use Homestead Indiana to find farm stands near you perfect for exploring local treasures, supporting your neighbors, and finding new places to shop.
Planning a road trip? 🚗🌻 You can even request a farm stand trail and create a fun adventure stopping at local farms and stands along the way!
Let’s get back to knowing where our food comes from, meeting the people who grow it, and supporting the hands that work the land. ❤️
