Why all the photos of hands? Because our Pastry Chef is a Danish Håndværksbager (translated: a Baker who works with his hands). Meet our Pastry Chef Henrik Gram! Henrik is educated pastry chef with the Danish Baker’s degree (Svendebrev). Over the past decades, Henrik has run his own bakeries in Denmark, worked for bakeries in LA and even baked for the Queen at Søpavillonen in Copenhagen. Together we aim to deliver the best of Danish pastries, confectionery cakes and bread to Solvang.

Birthday coming up? At Danish Mill Bakery we continue the Danish tradition of Kagemand (cake man) or Kagekone (cake woman). A traditional Danish birthday (especially for kids) include buns with butter, hot cocoa milk, lots of flags and of course Kagemand.
We bake Kagemand for order. Please call a week in advance and give us your preference of wienerbrød (pastry dough) with marzipan or brunsviger (cinnamon bun dough) with or without wipped cream on the edges. Only $49.95 and we can even add a large bag of Danish Matador Mix for only $7.95.

As one of the first Danish bakeries outside Denmark, Danish Mill Bakery is proud to join the organization of Bakers & Pastry Chefs in Denmark (BKD). With our Pastry Chef Henrik Gram and originally our founder Arvid Petersen, we fulfill the criteria of a Danish educated Pastry Chef. We have also always had Danish born ownership. Furthermore we pride ourselves on being Håndværksbager (Danish for baking by hand) and of course on “freshly baked breads and pastries EVERY day”, “no bake off” and “no baked by others”.
Thank you to our dedicated staff and our customers for allowing us to achieve this dedication.

Happy Father’s Day. Let your Dad indulge himself in both chocolate and wine. We have merged the two in a Danish Solvang way. World famous chocolatier Fritz Knipschildt together with Danish Mill Bakery has infused our own Rosé wine from KÆRSKOV Vineyard in Solvang into exclusive chocolate ganache bonbons. Danish Mill Bakery in Solvang

Arvid Petersen, the founder of Danish Mill Bakery Inc. finished his apprenticeship as a baker in 1931. Upon receiving his degree as a journeyman baker, he went to work for one of the finest bakeries in Copenhagen, Denmark. While working there he supplied the baked goods for King Christian X of Denmark. In 1940 the Petersens started the Danish Mill Bakery in Copenhagen, Denmark. The family immigrated to the United States in 1957. On September 17th, 1960, the Danish Mill Bakery was opened in Solvang, California. Arvid's son, Torben Petersen, learned from his father and build upon his father's legacy, continued Danish Mill Bakery until 2020. Today, Danish Mill Bakery is still Danish owned and our Head Baker (Danish: Bagermester) Henrik Gram continues the tradition of true Danish baking.
