A little reminder about the bread stand:
First, I want to say how incredibly grateful I am for all of you who support my bread stand every Friday! The overwhelming majority of you are absolutely wonderful, honest, and supportive, and I truly appreciate every single one of you more than you know. 🩷
I do need to clarify something, though. My stand is an honor-system stand, NOT a donation-only stand. Every single item is individually priced, and payment is expected for everything taken. I love being able to offer a self-serve experience built on trust, but that trust only works when everyone does their part.
Unfortunately, I've had a recurring situation with someone who has visited my stand multiple times, taking multiple items without paying the full amount owed. Today this happened twice, and I also have audio and visual recording of this, where this person was telling someone she was with to take whatever she wanted because she had already left me enough money. I also had a customer this morning who felt the need to pay the difference to cover what this person was trying to take. While I appreciate that customer's kindness, no one should ever feel responsible for paying for someone else's purchases.
I do have camera footage of these incidents, including what happened today. I have chosen not to publicly share anyone's identity or footage at this time, but please understand that an honor system is built on trust, and that trust should never be mistaken for an opportunity to take advantage of someone's kindness.
Anyone who knows me knows that I will go out of my way to help someone who genuinely needs help. If you're struggling, if times are tough, or if you need a little extra kindness, I will ALWAYS do my best to help when I can. I never want someone to go without something they need if I have the ability to help them.
So please understand that THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY. IT'S ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE. There is a huge difference between someone genuinely needing help and someone deciding for themselves that they have paid enough and can take whatever else they want. Taking items without paying for them isn't taking advantage of a bread stand, it's taking advantage of me, my hard work, and the trust I've placed in my customers.
I put a lot of time and hard work into everything I make, and I do so because I love sharing it with all of you. I want my bread stand to remain a place built on kindness, community, and trust.
To the many wonderful people who pay honestly, support my small business, and continue to show up week after week: THANK YOU! You are the reason I keep doing this, and I appreciate every single one of you! 🩷
Please remember that every item has a price, and payment is expected for everything you take. If you need help, please talk to me. I will always have more respect for someone who is honest with me about their situation than someone who takes advantage of my kindness, and I genuinely love helping and blessing people.
