I hope everyone's summer has been going well! I've been irrigating my blackberries like mad throughout this summer heat. What's interesting is seeing the few really hot, 100 degree days, decimate the beetles here. It seems their range is from the 80s to somewhere around mid 90s. After around 95 degree mark with direct sunlight, they seem to hit a wall. They were a little heavier than last year, but those really hot days put a full stop to their infestation for me.

With that said, the blackberries are looking MUCH better for next year's crop. Now I just need to get in there and tame them 😆

You all, thank you so much for such a wonderful year! I unfortunately have to close shop, we just don't have enough blackberries that can ripen to necessitate a season...plus this year's beetle pressure is a little heavier than last. It seems their presence is felt everywhere a bit more this year. On the beetles, I'm keeping up with the trapping and able to manage through them. This makes me confident for whenever the later season blackberries finally mature within the next few years.

I will keep posting photos and updates throughout the offseason, farm life never ends out here. We hope you all have a wonderful Summer and we send every bit of love to you all. Send us a wave when we see you out in the wild!

We are picked clean of ripe blackberries for now. I'm going to keep the farm closed for a few days to allow for the remaining Natchez and Arapahos to fully ripen up for a last push on the season. The bushes that I do have are early season, and they tend to have half or more of their crop picked by the time blueberry season is over. Here in a few seasons, we should have enough Triple Crown to have a decent stand alone blackberry season. Every year is definitely an improvement, and this year is no different.

I'll make a post here in the next few days underlying the end plan for this year. It's been an honor to grow your fruit, and it's been an even bigger pleasure meeting you all!

Our natchez and arapahos (after proper irrigation) are still throwing good numbers out. They're inside and a little lower in the bushes, but there are good numbers. I went from 3 to 6 appointments and opened up tomorrow, Tuesday, for reservations. Our triple crown row is putting out some of the most delicious blackberries I've ever had, I can't wait for the 6 other rows to mature!

I do ask that if you're looking for larger quantities, like 15lbs or more, shoot me a message. I'd like to make sure we can get you those berries without clearing out the bushes for our appointments.

Blackberries! I have posted some open spots, starting with 3 a day Tomorrow Monday and Wednesday. 8, 9, and 10 am spots. I'm going to wait to add more, I'd like to see the quantity amount come out first with the appointments currently in place. Irrigating was the key, these berries are looking much better!

I'm sorry for the short notice, but I do have decent blackberries that are ready for picking. I'll be out here taking people until noon or until we run out if you're wanting blackberries to make that cobbler for tomorrow!
Two days ago I picked the ugly ones for jam and started irrigating, it has made a difference already. I totally forgot tomorrow is the 4th, I easily lose track of days out here, but I won't be open tomorrow. I'll make sure to keep the progress posted for today in the comments. I'm not doing the appointment reservation for today

Heat, my poor pruning, stink bugs, voles, rabbits and rats. It's funny, once I remove a pest, it makes way for others. I was holding my breath this year on the performance my blackberries would have after rodents gnawed practically every cane pretty decently over the winter. Excess heat is causing additional stress, causing a lot of berries to form sun scalds. These canes are giving it all they have, but outside pressure seems to be too much for our early variety blackberries. My later season triple crown row seems to be fairing better, their berries have better vegetation coverage.

I don't want the early variety berries representing our farm, I can do better. I can at least pick these berries for jam next year, they're still edible and good. I'll need a few more days to determine the season and see how they're looking, until then I'm going to irrigate like crazy.

We still have good blackberries that are presentable, but that number may only be half of what is ripening.

WOW, what a season! Well over 3k pounds of blueberries picked by you all this year, very impressive. The dukes definitely showed up and made a huge difference. It felt like this season caught me off guard in some places but you all did so wonderful in adjusting. To the old and the new faces, we all at Nan's want to thank you all for the support and business. It's my duty to make sure you all have an enjoyable experience, and that means meeting the need for ripe berries to be plentiful for everyone. That being said, there may be a time or two where I will post some openings to pick our later season chandler bushes. We're still a few years from the ones that I've planted from producing, but the few bushes we do have still have a lot of green berries left.

Blackberries. Every year is getting substantially better, but I'm still far from satisfied. Currently they are going to need a few days to ripen up enough for a solid pick, but I will make a post when we're ready to officially start the season! I still need to hash out some ideas for scheduling, but I think I may have an idea.

Happy father's day gents!

It was a little wet this morning but to the ones who came out today, thank you! We are starting to wind down the blueberry season and start softly going into blackberry. I still have a ways to go to get their numbers where I would like them, but every year is an improvement on them.

This season has been a fast paced one. We would get morning rain followed by 80s and sunshine a lot this spring which would push our bushes to ripen quicker. I'd like to say that this season has been the best haul yet, and we still aren't done. I have the blueberry appointments going until 6/28, at which things can be reassesd when we get closer to that date. When blueberry closes off, blackberry will open. Feel free to message me for any further clarification on blackberries.
