Here’s a little cookie history, because you know, so many cookie related things pop up in my feed!
Here is Ruth Wakefield’s 1938 Chocolate Crunch Cookies recipe, aka Toll House Cookie (also include is a chocolate cookie recipe) . She is credited for the first Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, although this one uses chopped chocolate bar. This is scanned from her 1938 Tried and True cookbook. The Library of Congress houses the original printing of this cookbook which contains the first-ever published chocolate chip cookie recipe.
As the story goes, she and her husband owned the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts where she created the recipe. In exchange for Wakefield offering Nestlé permission to print the recipe and market their semi-sweet chocolate as a key ingredient, Wakefield received a $1 payment for recipe rights, a lifetime supply of baking chocolate, and a consulting deal with Nestlé. In tribute to the origin story, Nestlé branded the products "Toll House Cookies."
