🎂 Calling All South Dakota Bakers! 🕯️

Candles & Cake is currently in urgent need of more bakers to help provide birthday cakes for children in foster care across South Dakota. Right now, there are kids waiting to be matched with a baker for their special day.

We’re asking our amazing baking community to step up and help — whether you’re a home baker, hobby baker, cottage baker, custom cake artist, or brick-and-mortar bakery.🙏🏻

Volunteer bakers must have a valid South Dakota sales tax license to participate.

You don’t have to commit to every order. Even helping once can make a lasting impact on a child who deserves to feel celebrated.✨

A birthday cake may seem simple, but for a child in foster care, it can mean being seen, remembered, and loved.🤗

We don’t even know where to start.🫶🏻

We pulled off something really special with the South Dakota Bakers Association today.

Our goal was simple.. inspire people, support the baking community, create connections, and bring people together.
And above it all, we wanted to give back.

But somehow… every single time we do this, we leave feeling just as inspired as the people in the room.

What made today so meaningful wasn’t just what was planned…
it was everything that happened in between.

The conversations.
The encouragement.
The willingness to share, support, and lift each other up.

That’s what this is really about.

A huge shoutout to our speakers, vendors, and every baker who participated in the competitions and treat exchange YOU are what brought this event to life.

We also truly appreciate all of your feedback, and we can’t wait to take what we’ve learned and make next year even better.

To everyone who showed up and supported this event, Thank you. 🥹

You are the reason this community continues to grow the way it does.

And to our board…

This doesn’t happen without you.

The time, the effort, the behind the scenes work- it all showed today, and we’re incredibly proud of what we’re building together.

This is more than an event.
This is a community.

Food Tour Update 🚨🍽️

We were just informed that transportation will not be provided for the food tour, so please plan to make your way to the first location on your own. From there, the group will continue together!

✨ Good news though… if you missed registration for the food tour, you’re still in luck! You can still sign up — even day-of!

If you’re needing a ride, our SDBA President, Logan, may be able to help point you in the right direction or connect you with others — but any ride coordination will need to be arranged individually.

Food tour sign-ups /payments will be handled directly through SF Food Tours.

You’re also welcome to coordinate carpools in the comments!

We’re so excited for this — it’s going to be such a fun (and delicious) part of the day! 💕🍴

🍰 Mini Cake Decorating Experience 🍰

Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to decorate your own mini cake right at their booth! Whether you’re a beginner, hobby baker, or just want to play with buttercream for a bit — this is your chance to jump in and get creative.

No registration.
No pressure.
Just hands-on fun.

This is especially perfect for anyone who:
✨ Didn’t register for breakout sessions
✨ Wants something to do during the breakout session time blocks
✨ Is planning to network, browse vendors, or just enjoy the day at their own pace
✨ Loves getting a little creative (and maybe a little messy 😉)

During the breakout session portions of the day, we’ll have a networking table available, but you’ll also have the option to step away and enjoy experiences like this — making the day feel flexible, relaxed, and truly your own.

Fabre Sullivan is a custom cake and cupcake decorator based in Sioux Falls and the owner of Make Your Day Cakes. She recently introduced mini vintage heart cake decorating classes into her business and is so excited to share that experience with others. Fabre loves being a part of life’s special moments and truly enjoys helping make her customers’ days a little sweeter through her cakes.
