Finally...a "normal" baking day :) Had both the older girls in the bakery today plus assorted helpers, and a warm, dry place to bake...lovely morning! Icicles dripping and sparkling in the sun was an added bonus :) Can't wait to dive into the peanut butter brownie waiting for me at home (have to sample things and make sure the quality standards are being met, right? :))
Remember, we can come right to your door with our yummy baked goods, and deliveries are now on Wed! Think I'll request a caramel roll next week...they sure look good. Maybe it's time to go home and have supper :) Can't wait for next week...what a blessing to have this time in the bakery with my girls and then time visiting with all of you! See you next week!

Purple week coming up (that's week one for those of you with the new flyers!) As recommended by a good friend (thanks Marcia!) we are now going with the weeks as they come in the month...purple becomes one, blue becomes two and so on. The fifth week will be a repeat of week 3. Now that that is all good and clear, call if you need clarification :)
Mean while, our bakery now has HEAT! :) We were gifted with a wonderful wood stove (thanks Weavers!) and stove pipe and the labor to put them in (thanks Burnell and Cindy!). It really cranks out the heat, and things went much better...our mixer is happy once more.
We are still working on the mailing/phone list, so if you'd like to be on it, just let us know! Thank you for being patient with us as we work out the kinks :)
I got to bake today (Susan) with Gill...such a nice time. Lovely sunrise to watch with my daughter as we baked and visited. Love the feel of the bread dough as it's kneaded. Our new bakery space is just a pleasure to work in. And the children were troopers hauling and running errands and fetching. So thankful for our family. I even got to make one of my favorites today...rich, deep, spicy gingerbread!
Here's a lineup of some of next week's temptations :)

Caramel Rolls, Sourdough, Molasses Oat bread, Honey wheat bread, Cinnamon Swirl, Banana Bread, Fruit and Nut muffins, Cranberry White Chocolate Scones (yum!), Oatmeal Raisin, Almond and Double Chocolate Chip Cookies, Blueberry Cream Cheese bars, brownies, and Snickery bars (a favorite!). Anyone want pie? Try our Fruit of the Forest, filled with berries and winter fruits. Don't forget the cakes...Chocolate Applesauce and Fresh Strawberry cake...

And don't forget, delivery day is WEDNESDAY from now on. Please have orders in by Monday evening if possible. And always feel free to check on what we may have on hand any time of the week.
Looking forward to seeing you next week! Susan, for the Lattins

01/21/2012

Another interesting baking week :) But still blessed! It's been a bit cold this week...after running the oven for 4 hours, there was still frost on the big, 60 quart mixer! So...today, everything was done the old-fashioned way...by hand! :) Burnell Martins are bringing a heating stove for the bakery! Thanks very much, Weavers! Next week should be just a bit easier :) In the meantime, life is, well, interesting! So good to be home, and wonderful to be seeing everyone on Fridays. Yellow orders for this week...take a look at some of what we'll be baking up!

Caramel Rolls, Granola, Apple Dapple Bars, Raisin Custard Bars, Molasses Krinkles, Mama's Gingerbread, Cherry Pie and our prize-winning Maple Apple Pie! Breads will include Dorothy's Brown Bread, Wheat and Oat, Garlic Cheese Bread, Cinnamon Raisin Bread and Amber's wonderful Artisan Bread! This week we made Roasted Garlic Bread. Can't wait to see what next week brings!

If you haven't had the opportunity to order yet, just give us a call. We're finding it easier to just bring it to your door (as long as you are in the Silver Bay/Beaver Bay area). If you are farther away, give a call and we can find a way to connect! The phone calls and visiting have been wonderful...hopefully next week we can be more on time :) Have a blessed week, everyone! Susan, for the Lattins

Next week is GREEN...orders in by Wed evening...thanks!

Today was our first delivery...such fun :) Great to see everyone and can't wait for next week! We have learned a lot this week. We learned that we must heat the bakery with something other than the ovens. It's awfully hard to get bread to rise or butter to stay soft for creaming when it's freezing, and water freezes to the counters when you wipe them. And mixers don't like to work very well when their oil is that cold. And though turning the ovens on does alleviate those problems, it isn't awfully nice to have rain in your bakery when trying to roll out dough! Everything was so cold the condensation was fierce! Anyone have a little heating stove they're not using? And maybe the stovepipe to go with it? :) We also realized we're not as unpacked as we thought as we went searching for cornmeal, pecans and cornsyrup :) All in all though, a good first run and we can't wait to see everyone next week!
