A Little About Me & Why I Started Baking
My love for baking started at a very young age — I was only 13½ years old. One day during a church potluck, my Aunt Thelma Mitchell encouraged everyone, including the younger kids, to prepare something to share. She taught us the importance of cleanliness, wearing gloves, and cooking with care because everyone would be eating what we made.
I went home thinking about what I truly loved, and the answer came instantly — cookies. I have loved cookies for as long as I can remember. I found a recipe in my mother’s recipe book, followed it carefully, and created what felt like the perfect cookie. When everyone at church tasted them and enjoyed them, something sparked inside of me. That moment planted the seed for what would later become Mrs. Cookies.
My inspiration comes from generations before me. I grew up watching my mother bake birthday cakes from scratch along with countless homemade desserts and comfort foods — just like her mother did before her. From fresh biscuits and cornbread to cakes and sweet treats, the kitchen was always filled with love, tradition, and togetherness.
I come from a long line of amazing bakers and cooks, including my grandmothers, Mary Leftdwrige and Mattie Gillison. I spent a lot of time standing beside them in the kitchen, along with my aunts and my sweet mother, learning through watching, listening, and helping. I only wish I had collected more recipes and memories from my grandmother Mattie before she passed away, but I carry her spirit with me every time I bake.
Baking is more than a business for me — it is my passion. I truly love seeing the joy my desserts bring to people. There is nothing better than watching someone take that first bite and instantly smile because they can taste the love in every bite.
People often say I’m an old soul because I genuinely enjoy feeding people and making sure everyone feels cared for. That’s simply who I am. Every dessert I create is made with love, and every customer who supports me becomes a part of the Mrs. Cookies family.
I am beyond grateful for every customer, family member, and true friend who has supported me throughout this journey. Your love, encouragement, and support mean more than words can express.
I pray blessings, happiness, and prosperity over each and every person who supports my business and believes in my dream.
