Today the sun was shining for the first time in days here in Maryland which immediately put a swagger to my step in my dry morning walk. This sharp contrast in my morning before work mood, had me reflecting on the phrase, “you have to have the bad days to appreciate the good days.” This growth mindset is a perfect lead for paying gratitude today.
When you see a failure, a setback, a bad day through the lens of opportunity and growth, you won’t be held back in victimhood. You won’t be held back in self-doubt and insecurity. You won’t be held back by fear. There is beauty in all pain, and to give gratitude to it will help you train your mind to adopt this belief, which will have you responding to life’s hardships better and will just have you going about your day easier. Mostly too, you’ll keep showing up.
This week’s gratitude journal entry, think of a bad day and one really bad day. A less hurtful one will help build your mental strength to respond to life’s little blows better and a really bad one will serve for healing and moving forward. Be detailed. For example, if you are healing from a breakup, list what you learned specifically from the relationship and how you can use what you learned for bettering yourself, your life, and others’ lives.
While these rainy days were painful for me and my walks, they were good for my plants, who are growing to nourish me. Now all the sudden, these “bad” rainy days, were good days. See how I did that. 😊
Now that was an easy one. A bad day because it was raining isn’t so bad. It’s the bad days of loss that are much harder to see the light in, but I promise there are, and even if those you can’t journal about today, please one day do so. It will be uncomfortable, but also incredibly healing. The beauty in pain. 😊
Journal entries are completely personal, but if you’d like to share anything with the community, I invite you to in the space below.
