I am so proud of this cake. But, full disclosure.. as perfect as the cake may seem, I missed the mark.
Being a professional baker isn’t just about the finished product. A lot goes into the planning, prepping, creating of a wedding cake and sometimes a delivery.
With this order, I was late delivering. Did the cake still make it before the reception? Yes. But, I broke my commitment.
The thing is - I am human. Did mishaps happen? Yes. Did I underestimate the time it would take? Also, yes. But when the mother of the bride was unhappy - I understood. I didn’t make excuses.. I didn’t tell her what led up to my late delivery. I took accountability and I said “I’m sorry”. I told her, it was unacceptable for me to deliver late.
At the end of the day, it was my responsibility to plan appropriately and give myself ample time to account for mishaps.
Again, I’m proud of this cake and while it was stressful leading up to it.. I am taking this as a learning opportunity. 💜
Also, I did refund the delivery fee.. 😉 (the bride or mother of the bride did not ask for compensation or a refund, I did this because it was the right thing to do)
