A counter full of basil, sage, thyme, peppers and okra — all grown right here and ready to be dried, preserved, frozen and turned into something delicious.

There’s something pretty special about walking outside, gathering what the season gives you, and finding a way to make it last a little longer. 💚

Black walnut season 🤎

I’ve lived here for 34 years, and somehow I’ve never harvested the black walnuts growing right in my own yard.

This is just the first bucket—and there are at least two or three more still out there.

They’ve got a lot of work ahead of them before they become actual walnut meat: husking, cleaning, curing, cracking and picking. But I think that’s part of the fun of finally learning how to use something that’s been growing here all along.

Sometimes abundance has been sitting right under your nose the whole time.
