Stitch and Whisk official came to be when I became a first time mommy 9 short months ago. I work part time as a Special Education Teacher because I wanted to spend the rest of my time home with my sweet baby boy. Well of course he inspired me to create some darling knits for his own newborn photo shoot and to wear out and about. When people starting asking where they came from, I figured maybe it

would be a good idea to sell them! I also love baking and creating sweet treats. Every year during the Christmas holiday season, I make handmade chocolates and give them away as gifts. As fate would have it, friends started requesting boxes of chocolates for purchase. So to bring together my love for getting to spend time with my fast growing boy and my love for making beautiful things, Stitch & Whisk was created.

Well it's been a looong time since I've posted as my business has been on hold since my lupus diagnosis in October. I started medications which seemed to be helping my symptoms only to be blindsided right before Christmas with the news that my lupus was attacking /damaging my kidneys. I was admitted to the hospital 3 days before Christmas and diagnosed with class 4 lupus nephritis. Drs started treating high doses of steroids and immunosuppresant drugs and sent me home Christmas morning so I could be with my kids and family. Instead of starting to feel better I began to feel progressively worse - rapid heart rate, blurry vision, dizziness, almost fainting upon sitting /standing, extreme muscle weakness in my legs. I ended up back in er and the hospital for week before I figured out it was medications that I was on causing my symptoms. The good news is the meds helped my kidneys and brought those levels back to normal range. Bad news is they caused severe postural tachycardia and steroid induced myopathy. When I got home I collapsed trying to go up 1 step into my house. I've had to use a walker to get around and a wheelchair. I've been sleeping in a bed in my dining room. Let me tell you it's been no picnic and a sloowww recovery but I'm finally starting to get my strength back. I've been home 3 weeks now and today I made a classic with a new recipe. Not being able to cook and bake these past couple months has definitely taking away a part of who I am. I exhausted myself, but they were worth it! Hopefully in the near future I can get back to sharing my goodies with all of you!

Well we are still trying to figure out the root of my medical issues but I still managed this 1rst birthday cake and coordinating smash cake!

So I know it's been awhile since you heard from me-it's been a crazy couple of months. For those of you who don't know I am also a special education teacher so the beginning of the school year always brings new challenges. This year was particularly difficult as right before we left for our end of summer vacation, I woke up one morning and couldn't open my hands. My fingers and wrists were in extreme pain and I had limited mobility with my hands. It made for a frustrating vacation but the issue kept getting worse. Well it's been about 6 weeks now and I've been to see hand specialist ortho Dr, cortizone injections, ot/pt, acupuncture, had emg nerve test done, etc. I've been living with limited mobility and constant pain on my hands which a couple weeks ago spread to other joints in my body. Noone knows what is causing it. My primary however ordered some blood work and gave a referral to a rheumatologist. In the meantime she gave me a course of prednisone and for the first time in 6 weeks I can bend/straighten my fingers with very little pain. I have done almost zero baking which has been very hard this time of year because I love fall goodies. I've got a cake order coming up in a couple weeks but besides that am limiting orders I take as I allow by body to rest/heal and hopefully figure out what caused this issue. I hope to be able to do my handmade chocolates as usual in November/Dec.

Sometimes cakes work out perfectly and sometimes they don't. This weekend as I was working on a gender reveal cake I went to put it in my extra refrigerator in the garage. It was almost done with only a few finishing touches left. Well some bubbles had been spilled on the garage floor.... I think you know where this is going. It was like a slow motion scene out of a movie. My foot slipped, I tried to catch my balance, cake went up in air, flipped and came down with a splat. Upside down on a gross garage carpet. Hours of work now ruined. So I booked it to Walmart for more eggs and butter because the only choice was to start over. I'm a home baker and bake everything fresh to order so there is no stash of cakes in my freezer or bucket of frosting. It all has to be made again. But it was - and even though I didn't finish it until 10:30 last night, I happily delivered it this morning. And because I know you all want to know and I know the cake has been eaten - It's a girl!
