🌽🌽Sweet Corn🌽🌽
Growing up, my family made it a priority to teach us kids that life wasn’t about handouts and the things you want come with a cost. From a young age, each of us grandkids were given an acre of to***co to raise. This meant participating in every single aspect of the crop’s growth from planting down to helping load it up to be delivered at the end of the year. At the end of the year when checks came in, we were each given our share of the acre of to***co that we had worked in throughout the growing season.
We were taught that with hard work, there is reward, and this is something Spencer and I both want to teach our kids as they grow and get older. Though Asher is only 1, and his little brother isn’t earth-side yet, we want to set them up for success while teaching them valuable lessons in the process.
This year, we planted our first sweet corn crop as a family. Our intentions are to keep what we need to freeze and store to use until next summer, then anything leftover we’re planning to sell & part of those profits will be split between the boys & put into their savings accounts. While they’re not able to physically help right now, I believe exposure to the hard work is everything. Even if Asher does spend a lot of time stealing corn to eat himself…
That being said, keep your eyes peeled for when we have corn available! I’ll make a post hopefully in the next week or two with details and what we have once we get done putting ours up!
