Fred’s Famous Peanuts in Helen, Georgia, has been one of the best North GA mountain roadside stops since 1982. Just a few miles north of town, this rustic shack in the mountains is known for hot, salty boiled peanuts, crunchy fried peanuts, and sweet peanut brittle...made fresh right there. Sample everything before you buy, and chat with the friendly folks behind the counter. The shop also sells local jams, honey, pork rinds, and handmade crafts. You’ll find fun photo ops outside, including life-size “old folks” dolls and a gravity-fed waterwheel. Open daily from 10 am to 6:30 pm, Fred’s is a must for a real taste of North Georgia.
