Hi, itā€™s Karlie, the face behind the cakes! does it again with these great shots, and with photos of me how about some little tidbits?
I am from Indiana but I lived several places, including internationally, before settling here in Santa Cruz in 2019.
My first speciality cake was for my middle daughterā€™s 3rd birthday 15 years ago - it was a lady bug cake and it was not great but I was hooked! I continued making cakes for family and friends, teaching myself through YouTube videos and trial and error. I went on to get a job in a bakery where I honed my skills and then started Story Cake Studio in 2021. In my ā€œspareā€ time I enjoy mountain biking, watching tv, reading, exploring cities, and believe it or not, baking!
My biggest cake disaster was a family wedding - the catering team had to quickly disassembled and slice it before it fell over šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I learned the importance of good structure/supports that day!
I have white water rafted on the Nile River šŸŠ
My favorite flavor from my menu is chai latte, which just happens to be what I am eating in this photo!
TV shows I watch on repeat: Gilmore Girls, New Girl, Glee, Kimā€™s Convenience
While my style is mostly elegant and floral I really enjoy sculpting and themed cakes (check out my theme/birthday cakes highlight) so if youā€™re interested in something like that let me know!
