Sufganiyot - round doughnuts that are deep fried in oil, filled with jelly, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Traditionally served during Chanukah because frying foods in oil commemorates the miracle of the oil lasting for 8 days!

These babies are filled with blackberry and apple jam. Did I mention the apple jam was homemade by Sooo good!

A big thanks to for bringing this amazing recipe back again. The dough is so light and fluffy!

Individual challahs are ready for Shabbat services at Congregation B'nai Brith in Santa Barbara.

In all honesty these minis are actually from last week's bake. I'm terrible at keeping up with social media. Don't worry another bake is starting for tomorrow.

I love all the fancy braids, but they don't always make for the best sandwich bread. Starting this week you can request your challah be made in a bread loaf 🍞

The Jewish tradition of baking the symbolic Shlissel challah takes place on the shabbat immediately following Passover. Shlissel means key in Yiddish. Tradition is to bake a key inside the challah or leave a key imprint on the top of the challah. More modernly, the challah is baked in the shape of a key. The goal is to evoke G-d to “open” the locked gates of heaven and grant more blessing.

New Menu Item: Mandelbrot aka Mandel Bread

Mandelbrot is a Yiddish word that literally means almond bread. It is made similar to biscotti in which a 'loaf' is formed and baked. This loaf is then cut into individual cookies and baked again in order to form a crunchy exterior.
