Today, on National Baklava Day, we'd like to give a shout out to Nousa's Cakes & Sweets, which will bring its baklava rolls to the GISSV - German International School of Silicon Valley's German Holiday Market on Saturday, December 9, 11am - 9pm. Mountain View City Hall Plaza, 500 Castro St., Downtown Mountain View .

Baklava consists of fine layers of dough that are filled with nuts and sweetened with syrup or honey. The origins of baklava date back to around the 8th century when people in the Assyrian Empire, which included parts of modern-day Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Syria and Turkey, arranged unleavened flatbreads in layers with chopped nuts in between that were enjoyed during special events.
