The sweetest little lady turned one and I had the great honor of making her cake. Her parents crushed the 🍓 theme and I designed the cake to match the sweet birthday crown her mama made.

My own tiny human turned one yesterday. Naturally, he had to have a cake. In typical mom fashion, I got zero good pictures of the cake before our little guy got to smashing. I think he did a pretty good job! Happy first birthday to our little sunshine, Jack. 🥳☀️🎂💗

Congratulations to Keith and Jessica! Fun wedding shower cake 🖤❤️

When I started this cake as a surprise for a colleague’s wedding shower, I didn’t know I’d be laid off before the party. But that wasn’t the bride or groom’s fault and the show must go on! Seriously delighted to be able to deliver one last cake to my truly incredible work pals. I’ll miss them and im@glad I got to exit on a sweet note.

Hi! It’s been a long time since I’ve used this page much and even longer since I’ve properly introduced myself. I’m Rachel and I used to operate Grateful Bakes in St. Petersburg, FL. Now I’m in San Francisco, my beloved new home. I have worked in nonprofits since college, where I doubled down on my mission to make the world a better place. I’m a new(ish) mom to an almost 1 year old little dude, by far the best thing I’ve ever produced, and I really love feeding people. I started Grateful Bakes because I wanted to offer friends and family an opportunity to eat my cakes and share them with their loved ones even when they were not at my house for a dinner party. It grew from there and quickly turned from a side hustle to a full time gig with lots of overtime.

After relocating to San Francisco in 2023 I stopped taking orders and went back to work in nonprofit-land full time. Turns out nonprofit life is rough! (It always has been.) I was laid off on Monday and I’m now considering returning to baking on a limited basis. Please hit me up if you need a special cake in your life. Three weeks ago I got to celebrate Public Radio Cake Week with my colleagues for the second time. The themes were challenging this year, and I chose the Local Pride prompt and called my entry “Pride of San Francisco.” Took home the W in my category for the second year in a row! It’s Public Media Cake week! My FIRST public media cake week and this year’s themes included “Hi, Barbie!” so naturally I chose to go Weird Barbie and went all in on color and fun. Barbie isn’t edible, but the Birkenstock sandal she’s holding is!

I also tried my best to match my cake. 💖

It was so fun to see what everyone else came up with! 🎂 💅 💖 🦄 🎉 🍰 👛 🌸

One year ago today and I packed up the Prius with two dogs, enough provisions to last a couple of weeks, all our hopes and dreams (and worries), and we left our Florida life behind. On Christmas Day we arrived at our new home in San Francisco a little worse for wear but so excited to start this new chapter. This year has been so full of joy & adventure and I can’t wait to see what this next year brings. Sending lots of love from our little spot in SF (aka the OTHER Bay Area 😉) to you and yours this holiday season. 💥🎄💜🕊️🕎

Had a lot of fun participating in KQED’s Science is a Piece of Cake competition earlier this week. The Point Bonita sea arch was the prompt for the “advanced” bakers, and it was great to take 2nd place among such talented competitors. Scroll to see the inspo image (and ’s cinematic video.)

PS - no one told me I had to serve my own cake so I was unprepared, as you can see from my buttercream covered hands!

Cake: chocolate mousse with salted bourbon caramel, crunchy toffee crumbles, vanilla bean Swiss meringue buttercream. Sea arch: Rice Krispie treats molded into arch shape, hand painted with edible luster dust & buttercream.
