I received the opportunity to try out these amazing new products- textured rolling pins from .options and my mind was blown. (Their new rolling pins are live on their website!)
Initially I wanted to use the olive leaves rolling pin but I was so drawn to the honeycomb rolling pin. I also got to try out pasta cover (fondant) and this fondant was incredible. It’s hard at first, but once you roll it out- it is both sturdy and stretchy. I was very impressed. This is the type of fondant I really enjoy using.
Steps to create this cake:
1. Knead pasta cover (fondant) until pliable
2. I use the panel method to cover my cakes in fondant so first I roll out a small piece that will fit the top of my cake. Roll out the fondant and brush my edible glue (available on my website) on the top of your cold frosted cake. Flip your cake over to adhere the top of the cake to the fondant. Use a sharp knife to cut around the top of the cake
3. Measure your cake and roll out the height and the circumference- this will give you the size for your panel of fondant. I always make sure to roll it out longer and wider so we have room to work
4. Choose the .options textured rolling pins of your choice. Carefully roll the rolling pin in a straight line making sure to apply even pressure. After this, cut a straight line along the length of the fondant. This will be the top edge. Roll up the fondant into a loose roll
5. Spritz the sides of the cakes with water so the fondant will adhere to the sides
6. Start adhering the straight edge of the fondant to the top of the cake (which is still upside down) The edge will join with the top of the cake
7. Apply light pressure to adhere the fondant to the sides of the cake
8. When you reach the back of the cake where the two pieces of fondant overlap, cut them both in a straight line to create one even seam. Use edible glue to adhere the two pieces together
9. Flip your cake over
10. Allow cake to rest in fridge for 30 minutes so the buttercream frosting can firm back up
11. Paint the sides of the honeycomb fondant
12. Make fondant bees and ‘drip’ from a mold and paint
13. Make a simple flower with wafer paper
