What is Kathy Reading?!!
Heart the Lover by Lily King ❤️
Wow. This book gave me ALL the feelings.
It’s under 300 pages and only three chapters!!! Yet somehow it packed an entire lifetime of emotions into those pages.
The story follows Jordan (a nickname given to her by her college friends), whose relationship with her boyfriend Sam slowly begins to unravel. As her friendship with Sam’s best friend, Yash, grows deeper, relationships become complicated, hearts get broken, and life refuses to go according to plan. The best way I can describe this book? It made me FEEL everything. I was angry. I was heartbroken. I was frustrated. I was hopeful. There were moments I wanted to yell at these characters. Moments I wanted them to suffer for the choices they made. Moments I wanted to hug them. And moments where my heart absolutely shattered for them.
Lily King created characters who feel incredibly human messy and imperfect, but they were loving, selfish, regretful, and vulnerable all at once. If you’re looking for a book that explores love, friendship, loss, guilt, forgiveness, grief, healing, and the complicated ways our choices echo throughout our lives? This is it!
And the ending… beautifully written.
By the end, I wasn’t invested in who ended up with who. I was invested in who they became. I only wished for a little more time with the family Jordan builds later in life because I wasn’t ready to let them go.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.8 (4.8 stars)
Heartbreakingly beautiful. This definitely won’t be my last Lily King book.
