I have been thinking on this for some time now and with careful consideration I have decided to stop taking orders for Blue Shutter Bakehouse. I have enjoyed sharing my passion for baking with the community but I have other things that take priority over my small business at this moment.

While I will not be taking orders, I may from time to time sell some products when I am able to get around to baking.

Thank you to each and every person who has supported my business. I truly appreciated all of it.

Where else in San Antonio can you get specialty European pastries that you can’t find anywhere else? Today I made the very labor intensive Danish pastry Smørkage. I’m not sure this is something I could ever sell (well maybe a special order) because it requires me to make marzipan, remonce cream, pastry cream, and yeast dough all for one pastry. It’s a lot of steps (and time) but boy was it worth it. My in-laws always get the special stuff when they're in town.

I’ve been wanting to try this recipe for a while and finally got the chance. I made semlør, Swedish sweet buns usually eaten around the time leading up to Fat Thursday (and yes I meant Thursday). These buns are filled with almond paste cream and sometimes either vanilla custard, berry jam, or in the case of my husband and kids, Nutella. The filled buns are then topped with a generous amount of vanilla whipped cream and a dusting of powdered sugar. So so delicious.

Good morning all- I am back in town and making some Vetelängder for THIS Friday and Satuday, June 25 and 26. It is a Swedish pastry consisting of cinnamon sugar and almond filling. The pastry is large and can feed around 8. It is approx., 16 inches long by 5 inches wide. You can choose to have it iced, or un-iced and can choose to have your braid split into 2 smaller equal pieces if you would like to freeze one for later.

Limited orders will be taken per day.
