We wanted to take a moment to give you a little INsight into the influencer marketing process. Today, we are discussing...
HIDDEN LIKES
A while back Instagram allowed the capability to hide the number of likes on a given post. This was controversial at the time, but many people saw this as a benefit as it limited the ability to compare yourself to others, making Instagram a better place to be, from a mental health stand point.
While that fact remains to be true, from an influencer marketing perspective, hidden likes actually end up being a determinant to becoming a successful influencer.
You see, engagement rate tends to be a key factor for a businesses looking to partner with an influencer. Many influencer marketing agency use a variety of tools to calculate engagement, but generally engagement rates are calculated by taking all the interactions on a given post (likes, comments, shares, saves) and dividing it by the number of followers an influencer has. Every post has its own engagement so the tools will then average this out across all posts.
The problem with hidden likes, is that they still get factored into this calculation. But it just uses a "0" instead of the actual amount of likes the post got. This, in turn drives your engagement rate down. We have actually seen certain influencers, who hide their likes on every post, show up with a negative engagement rate, when in reality they have a very engaged audience.
We at THE IN, work slightly differently in that we rely on our network of influencers (you all 😊), through post interactions, story interactions, and direct messaging to connect great influencers with great brands. But even we reference engagement rates pretty regularly.
So what we are trying to say is....DON'T HIDE YOUR LIKES
