Reading post! It’s been a good stretch. I discovered César Aira, who’s a new favorite. Heinrich von Kleist hardly wrote anything, but what he did is fantastic. Buzzati is a reread—so good. Chateaubriand is a joy to read. Starter Villain is funnier than hell. Only downer was Fermor—this being his sole attempt at fiction. Can’t win them all.

100 days until opening day at Northland Lodge. That’s where you’ll find us this summer—on Pelican Lake, just outside of Orr, Minnesota. It’s been in my family for 103 years. Summer 104 is going to be the one where my wife Amy, our three kids, Yorkshire terrier Barry, and I (along with a lot of help*) do our best to keep this special place humming. You’ll find this sign just outside the main lodge when you come see us.
