Believe it or not, I had never piped a blueberry before this order! But by the end of this order, it was hard to remember that time. šŸ˜‚

I actually loved making these, each one sort of coming together organically with their own shape and size. I took a dry paintbrush and added blue powdered dye to the top of each blueberry. That gave each one so much more life and realism.

Have a great day, everyone! Looks gorgeous out there. ā¤ļø

My wonderful customer sent me a picture of baby’s breath themed cookies, and she gave me the color scheme and the three things she wanted written. I took all that and designed this set, which I just love. Worth all the hand cramps! šŸ˜‚

How did I make those ruffles on the onesie? Well, my friends, it’s simple when you use a piping tip! It’s even the same piping tip I used to make all the flowers, which makes set up and cleaning a little easier. It’s a ā€œpetal tipā€, meaning it is almost flat and more narrow on one end since petals get more narrow and delicate as the go. Right? Picture a single rose petal. It gets thinner towards to top. You want to achieve that in royal icing flowers as well!

And ruffles. šŸ˜€ So, you place the thicker end of the tip right on the onesie so the ruffles also get more delicate as they go. Keep a constant squeeze on the bag and lift up and down, up and down across the cookie. I’ve done this so many times that I add a little shake and fold as I go… and now I’m realizing this is maybe a bit too complicated to describe in words! šŸ˜‚ Maybe I should make a video or add this technique to the piping flowers class!

Have a wonderful day everyone! ā¤ļø

Sometimes it’s very helpful to be married to a baker!

My husband is leaving his job as a counselor at Hazelton and will now be the program director for The Retreat, a different treatment center here in the cities. He wanted special cookies to give to everyone he has gotten to know in his almost 18 months there.

So he gave me a list of 38 names that included his boss and other counselors and mental health specialists. But this list was also the people behind the scenes that make the place run smoothly, but don’t necessarily get all the glory. The lunch ladies, the barista, the cleaning crew, front desk, and so on.

My customer was not very high maintenance… lucky for me because I live with the guy! šŸ˜‚ But he said he loves my line drawings, he wanted the name front and center and for it also to say ā€œGrateful for youā€.

My husband told me they were very well received and several people exclaimed, ā€œHow am I supposed to eat this?!ā€ šŸ˜€

This delightful customer just wanted 6 cookies to add to a congratulations basket she was giving her daughter.who was graduating from St. Kate's with a degree in radiology.

Cookies aren't just for dessert, or have to part of a big event. Sometimes they just say "I love you."

This weekend we had to say goodbye to our sweet little Luna. Those of you who have taken my classes have met my little 8 pound marshmallow! She loved to greet everyone.

She was almost 15, and there were clear signs that her systems were failing. So we took her to her favorite place for one last romp (second picture) before going in for her appointment. Honestly, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do: pick her up out of her comfy bed and put her in the car one last time. But, it wasn’t fair to her to put her through any more.

We brought our Lexie to the appointment because experts says it helps companion animals understand what is happening. What ended up happening— of course— is she helped us. We are laughing in this first picture at Lexie’s insistence on licking away my son’s tears in the time before Luna’s final moments. But I do think it was good for her to be there. She’s sad and grieving, but not confused.

We are heartbroken. Anyone who has lost a pet before knows this hollow, guilty, lonely feeling. But we’re so lucky to have such a wonderful little spitfire. She was smart and strong and didn’t put up with anything. We will love her forever.

I get to make these every year for my friend and her dance studio, Lake Minnetonka Dance Academy. They are for her dancers after their annual recital and I just love knowing these cookies are making dancers feel happy and proud. I was a dancer my whole life… that’s where I met my friend! We both went to the arts high school to study dance.

I look forward to catching up with her and giving her hugs every year. Love ya, Betsy!

I like using my window as sort of like a prop in my pictures! I always take my pictures near a window because using natural light makes a HUGE difference in how the pictures turn out. I also use ā€œportrait modeā€ which is what makes the background blurry.

I do upload my pictures to an app called Lightroom. Sometimes the pictures are still too dark… so I lighten them, sharpen details, and of course crop. But I never, ever change the cookies beyond what they look like in real life.

PS. We had quite the night here last night! Lightning struck the power box on top of the pole right in front of our house! It struck at the exact moment thunder boomed and that was literally the loudest set of noises I have ever heard. My poor puppy… her ears were perma pinned back and she peed in our bed in protest. (Freaked out? Pi**ed off? I don’t know. But luckily she’s never done that before! šŸ˜‚) Power was out for only an hour though! I was impressed. Also, it was fun to watch them fix where the box was hit since it was right outside my window.

If I could pick one favorite baby shower theme, it would probably be ā€œWe can bearly waitā€. I mean, it’s always just so darn cute!

This customer sent me an inspiration picture and said she’d like these cookies. Which I did… adding in some Chocolate Chickadee details! I added detailed piping on the stroller and hot air balloon, and chose different fonts for the words because I thought the inspo pic font was a bit plain. But I love adding in a hot air balloon to this theme! I’m going to have to remember that. 😊
