Went on a retreat last week. Off-duty cookie lady, no gluten free flour in sight.

The host said something out loud on day one that changed the whole weekend for me. By day two, that turned into a running bit involving decorative scissors. Long story.

It's National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, and I'm looking at a photo from the very first CCC photo shoot I ever did: August 2022.

Years of allergen-free recipe testing led to this cookie. No wheat, no dairy, no egg, and somehow still the thing people say tastes like "the cookie I thought I'd never eat again," or "so good, I didn't realize it was gf."

This is the cookie that started it all; the one that's never left the lineup, the one I'd keep even if I had to cut everything else.

A few things about this cookie you don't know yet.

I almost never do buttercream on sugar cookies. That's not a "maybe someday," it's a rule I keep. So when I say this is the only shot at vanilla and strawberry buttercream from me, this year, this cookie, I mean it. Once tonight's cart closes, I'm back to no-buttercream for good.

Here's the part I haven't said: it's basically a tiny bakery CSA. Order once, pick up your half-dozen this week, then in December, I bake your other half-dozen fresh and send a reminder a week out and again the day before about pickup.

You don't have to remember a thing.

Here's the thing about the crumb.

It doesn't shatter. It doesn't crumble into your lap like it's trying to escape. It gives, just slightly, before it breaks; the way a cookie is supposed to, the way most gluten-free ones never quite manage.

(I have opinions about crumb structure. I did not expect to have opinions about crumb structure. And yet.)

People don't usually tell me the cookies are "good for gluten-free." They tell me they're just good. One mom told me her husband (no allergies, no restrictions, could eat literally anything in the grocery store) can't keep his hands off them.

Nobody's grading on a curve here. Nobody's being polite about the "safe" version. People just eat the whole dozen and ask when the next batch is ready.

So if you've never tried one, this is your sign.

And if you have, tell me which one ruined you for other sugar cookies. I'll wait. 👇

Gave a batch of these to our new care support person for the first time yesterday.

No pressure, no expectations; just "here, have some cookies, no obligation to say anything nice."

Got a text within the hour that started with "I had to message you" and did not end there. 🖤

(This is the part of the job nobody warns you about. You bake for your own kid's safety. Then someone who has zero reason to be nice to you tastes one and it becomes A Whole Text Thread.)

Orders are coming in and I am NOT okay (in the best way). 🍦

This is what's waiting for the people who already said yes — vanilla buttercream cone, strawberry buttercream scoop, both piped onto a chocolate sugar cookie underneath. Every ridge in that "cone" is hand-piped. Every swirl on top too.

Half-dozen units, capped at 4 dozen, orders open through the 29th. One payment gets you this batch and a December batch — because "Christmas in July" should actually mean something.

This is me, mid-taste-test, holding a vanilla stand-in for a chocolate cookie that isn't ready yet.

(These are vanilla sugar cookies— I'm out of my flour blend until Friday. Pure impatience. I just couldn't wait to see them.)

Here's what's actually launching: chocolate sugar cookie ice cream cones now, chocolate sugar cookie trees in December. One payment, two deliveries.

This is also prep work — for me and for you. Buying in now helps me plan the busy season ahead of time instead of scrambling in November. You get dessert handled twice over. I get a little breathing room before the rush hits.

Sugar cookie week continues. (Yes, I've decided this is a whole week now. No, you can't stop me.)

Friday I showed you rainbow clouds from St. Patrick's Day 2023. Today, a confession: I can also do this.

Buttercream roses. Hand-shaped daisy petals. Piped, not printed. This isn't in regular rotation anymore, when I simplified the whole product line, it went with everything else that wasn't sustainable for me. But the hands remember.

And I'm bringing it back. On purpose, in small batches, for Christmas in July. Order window opens July 22nd.
