I had the honor and privilege of providing desserts for Area Agency on Aging celebration night at the Mendel. We made over 300 cookies as well as pumpkin bars, brownies and pecan pie bars. Much to my surprise, I was invited to attend. After five years of caretaking for my parents, I was truly honored to be in a room surrounded by so many remarkable individuals and organizations. I have an immense appreciation for everyone who chooses to dedicate their time and abilities to care for others. The phrase not all hero’s wear capes was very real to me tonight. I have been familiar with Area Agency on Aging, but tonight I was enlightened on just how vast of resources they can offer. If you have a parent or grandparent and it’s getting to that point in their life where conversations are beginning on what is next and how to keep them where they want to be safely and comfortably, keep Area Agency in mind.
