Sometimes, the hardest part of baking isn’t the 3:00 AM alarms—it’s the days when you pour everything you have into a batch, and it still goes completely wrong.
Today was one of those deeply humbling days at B&B Bread and Co.
We had 16 dozen of our sourdough cinnamon rolls in the works. If you know sourdough, you know it isn’t a quick process. It is a true labor of love that takes days of feeding, mixing, resting, and shaping. We put our absolute heart and soul into this massive batch, carefully crafting every single roll to make sure they would be beautiful for you.
But somewhere along the line, they didn’t go according to plan. We had to make the gut-wrenching decision to throw all 192 of them away.
For a baker, this is devastating. When you care so deeply about your craft and the quality of what goes into our pastry case, tossing out hours of hard work and beautiful ingredients absolutely breaks your heart.
But the kitchen is a great teacher.
It reminds us that no matter how hard we strive for perfection, some days just aren’t going to be perfect. The only thing we can do is sweep up the flour, wash the bowls, and keep moving forward.
We are resetting our starters and trying again, knowing that tomorrow is a fresh mix and, hopefully, a much better bake. Thank you for supporting us through the beautiful bakes and the heartbreaking fails. 🤎🌾
