You've probably noticed that we don't do social media much, but today is different.

On April 27, 2006 Muggsy's Beans opened its doors for the first time. In the beginning we'd order a few hundred pounds of beans, roast them up, and get them out the door. Eventually that turned into thousands of pounds and it's all due to our incredible customers and friends.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has stuck with Muggsy's Beans for the past 20 years, and we look forward to many more years to come.

In particular, we'd like to give a shout out to Beaver Island Brewing Company and Pantown Brewing Company. Both great St. Cloud breweries use our beans in their specialty beers. Also to the Good Earth Food Coop who sells our beans in bulk, and especially to the Local Blend in St. Joe (who just celebrated their 18th anniversary), the very model of what a locally owned coffee house should be from the locally thrown pottery they use for their mugs to their amazing in-house bakery and kitchen.

Muggsy’s Beans plays a small role in the Local Blend’s incredible and continuing success! They are the very model of what a community coffee house should be. Congrats to Stacie and her INCREDIBLE staff!

People keep asking me about coffee prices. Yes, they've gone up just like the price of everything. But here are some hard numbers: in December I ordered 55 bags of coffee because I knew tariffs were coming and the coffee averaged out to $824 per bag. Today I ordered 31 bags of coffee and the price averaged out to $992 per bag--a 20% increase.

Remember, it's not the exporting countries who pay those tariffs--it's me... and now you because I will have to raise my prices again to compensate.

Muggsy will be out of town until Tuesday, April 22nd. You can still place online orders, but they won't be dealt with until after he gets back. The store will be closed.

Tariffs of 32% on Indonesia, 18% on Nicaragua, 10% on Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador are not going to do good things to coffee prices. And when you're talking commodities, as coffee is, a price raise in one country equals a price raise across the board.

A NOTE TO MY CUSTOMERS: Coffee prices are higher now than I have ever seen them in over 30 years in this business and I don’t see them coming down anytime soon. As as result I have had to raise my prices significantly not only to reflect this price increase, but to also bring Muggsy’s Beans more in step with other retail coffee roasters. As always it is my intention to continue to provide my customers with the best quality coffee beans available, and to roast the best tasting beans around. I thank you for your patronage and for supporting a locally owned and operated small business. –Muggsy

2010. One ton of beans. A dozen bags. That's what we used to order. And we had to go get them ourselves with a flatbed trailer and a borrowed pickup truck. Our last order was for 43 bags, over 3 tons delivered to our door. What a difference! And we owe it all to YOU! Thanks.
