Truthfully, recording myself, talking to my phone, and sharing bits of my life online feels incredibly strange. It feels awkward, vulnerable, and a little cringe 😅

There are so many moments when I question whether I should post something or just keep it to myself.

And then someone walks into the shop or stops me while I'm out and says, "I love following your journey," or "You've inspired me to pursue my own dream," or simply, "Thank you for sharing so honestly."

And suddenly, all of the awkwardness feels worth it.

Because if sharing my journey helps even one working mom feel less alone, helps one person pursue their dream, or believe in themselves a little more, then I'll keep hitting 'post' 🤍✨

To everyone who has ever taken the time to encourage me, support this little dream, or tell me that something I shared resonated with yoy - thank you. It truly means do much ♡

And honestly? It's well deserved 🙌🏽

His customer service is top notch. He enthusiastically greets customers when they walk through the door and eagerly waves goodbye when they're on their way out. He is always more than happy to share his monster trucks or tell you all about the latest garbage truck he's spotted 🚛🥹

He keeps morale high, brings lots of smiles to the shop, and reminds us daily not to take life too seriously.

The Cake Cottage simply wouldn't be the same without our tiniest employee, and we're incredibly grateful for his unwavering commitment to the job (and quality control) 🤍

Employee of the Year perks include unlimited hugs, occasional cookies, and absolutely no restrictions on talking about trucks 😅

Did I just get myself kicked out of the club?? 🤭🤔

1 "It's not personal, it's just business."I disagree. Business is deeply personal (for me). There are real people on both sides of every transaction, and I don't think professionalism should come at the expense of kindness, integrity, or doing the right thing.

2 "Clients can't be friends." Some of the most wonderful people in my life are also my customers. I've watched families grow, celebrated milestones, cried with people through losses, had some of the most profound conversations of my life and built genuine friendships along the way. That's one of the greatest gifts this business has given me.

3 "You have to choose between being successful and being kind." The business world often acts like you need a tough exterior to get ahead and I've seen how easy it can be to step on someone else in order to make a way for yourself, but I've also found that empathy, generosity, and treating people well can be just as powerful as any business strategy.

4 "Business decisions should be made based solely on profit." Of course businesses need to be profitable, and yes, that should always be at the forefront of an entrepreneur's mind, but sometimes the right decision is the one that serves your customers, supports your community, or aligns with your values, even if it doesn't maximize revenue in the moment.

My husband knows. My family knows. My friends know. My staff knows. Honestly, even my dog probably knows. 😂
The second I say, "I just need to finish this one thing really quickly and I'll be out of here," everyone collectively rolls their eyes 😒
Because once I'm at the shop and the doors are open, "really quickly" becomes helping customers, taking orders, fixing a display, restocking something and somehow finding three more things that need my attention before I can leave.
I mean well every single time... but history has proven that "really quickly" and small business ownership don't exactly go together
