☀️ Let’s talk sunscreen for a minute…
A few years ago I started paying closer attention to the ingredients we were putting on our bodies — especially my kids’ skin.
I realized sunscreen isn’t just something that sits on the surface… our skin absorbs a lot of what we use daily. That sent me down a rabbit hole reading labels, researching ingredients, and eventually asking myself:
Could I make something simpler for my own family?
So I started making our sunscreen at home using ingredients I already trusted.
Nothing fancy. Just simple things like:
🌴 Coconut oil — naturally moisturizing and helps prevent skin from drying out in the sun.
🌰 Sweet almond oil — lightweight, nourishing, and rich in vitamin E for skin support.
🧈 Shea butter — deeply protective and helps create a barrier that locks in moisture.
🐝 Beeswax — gives sunscreen staying power and helps it resist sweat and water.
🌾 Arrowroot powder — cuts the greasy feel and gives a smoother, more wearable texture.
⚪ Non-nano zinc oxide — the real star ingredient. It sits on top of the skin and reflects UV rays instead of being absorbed, which is why mineral sunscreens use it for broad-spectrum sun protection.
For me, it wasn’t about being perfect or anti-anything… it was about feeling confident knowing exactly what my family was using every day.
And honestly? Making our own products has been kind of empowering. 💛
I’m curious — have you ever made homemade products for your family?
Soap? Lotion? Bug spray? Cleaning products? Bread? 😂
👇 Tell me what you’ve tried (or what you’d like to try someday)!
