Ralph has moved his Calendar Islands 16 to a new spot near his home - a 20-foot shipping containers. Just as we have utilized shipping containers for shop space, others are finding them ideal for storage. They are long and narrow as boats tend to be; they are wind and weather tight (of course); they are rodent proof (my favorite feature); they last much longer than a wood shed; and they are mobile (not permanent structures, my second favorite feature). In this case the CI-16 on a Trailex trailer and the mast down out the transom just fits a 20-footer and there is space to work around it. Ramps are easy to find that make rolling the boat in and out a breeze. I highly suggest shipping containers for storage and even for shops space. They can be fully insulated, electrified and finished. If you need more info, contact Clint!

It will forever be known as Container Day. They are all in place...let the container shop be born. A huge shout out to some wonderful people who helped make this happen. The guys who made the containers and the contractors who I now consider friends. We all worked together to pull it off and it was about as good as you can do it. Then it snowed, a lot, the next day! So many transformations heading into the new year.

Last week before the snow came and real winter began, we received the first containers from SnapSpace Solutions, well really one container made into two. I designed this 40-foot container to become two containers with very different uses. The longer one is 31.5-feet will serve as wood storage and was accomplished by cutting off the cargo doors, removing an 8.5-foot section, and then the crew at SnapSpace simply welded the cargo door frame and doors back on. The "shorty" container was reinforced beautifully with angle welded around the perimeter of each open end of the container framing it and creating a fl**ge to which we will bolt the container to the garage and the double-40' shop, creating a breeeeway. So one 40' becomes two incredibly useful spaces. This week we will set the breezeway container, but first the underside of the floor needs to be insulated and the garage wall prepped to take the unit. It's going to be another interesting week on site. I am starting to look forward to getting back to boats!!!

The double-40 is on porcess in Witchita, KS - this will be my wood shop that will house table saw, jointer, planer and chop saw. Very exciting!
