Very cool

We did not make this panettone. It was a business anniversary gift from Gerry Newman, the owner of another bakery in town that everyone has heard of and loves called Despite the fact that we are technically competitors, over the years Gerry has shown us kindness and generosity in ways that might be surprising to some people. Just a month or two ago our supplier ran out of yeast of all things and Gerry lent us some. Jason’s birthday is today and he has already blown out candles on two princess cakes from Gerry’s bakery. The great thing about the food community here in Charlottesville is that, with rare exceptions, businesses support other businesses. It was a little surprising to us coming from NYC where things are a little more cutthroat, but it is quite wonderful and genuine. We have great relationships with other bakeries and try to spread the goodwill and generosity that people like Gerry have shown us. So in the spirit of the holidays and in contrast to bad news around the world, we would like to say that we are thankful to be part of this wonderful food community and for people like Gerry.
