Hello my dear and loyal bread peeps - I know many of you have been patiently awaiting updates on Royalston Kneads and for that I thank you. With a very heavy heart I have to let you know, for a variety of personal reasons, I am not able to continue Royalston Kneads at this time. Too much is in flux currently and I just don't have the time or mental space to fire up the oven (as much as I'd like to).

Please watch here for updates about the future of Royalston Kneads. Thank you for hanging in there and being such a great and loyal customer base.

In the meantime, there is also Jen's Homestead (Winchendon), PattyBakes Sourdough (Winchendon), Kneadful Treats (Gardner), Lila's Porch Pickup (some or all organic ingredients - Gardner) and Bacon Street Farmstand (some or all organic ingredients - Westminster) who I believe all specialize in sourdough products, both savory and sweet. :)

Hello Bread Peeps!

As some of you are aware, we lost a member of the family recently. I really appreciate your understanding during this time of loss. I apologize that I have been absent from my Royalston Kneads duties and have not been able to do any bread shed days or bread pick-ups. Our elderly uncle has been understandingly devastated by the loss of his wife of 60 years, and has needed a lot of support from us during this period. Unfortunately, he is still struggling and needs our continued support to help him get his life back into some kind of order. As such, I expect that I am not going to be able to bake for a bit longer. Fear not though as I will be back at it soon enough! I will post updates here periodically to keep everyone in the loop. I really do appreciate all of you and your continued support! Thank you. ❤️

Update: There will be no bread shed on Sunday, Mother's Day. Sorry bread peeps. There's been a death in the family and I am feeling too emotionally depleted from everything that goes with that. Next week, there will also be no bread pick-up as our daughter is graduating from UMass Amherst next Friday. I'm sorry guys. I'll keep you updated.

Good afternoon bread peeps! I’ll be baking a little extra and beyond this Friday’s orders. Basically, exactly what my customers have ordered, but extras. Please check the bread shed this Friday@2PM-sold out/dark (whichever comes first). I’ll let you know by this Friday@12PM what extras/quantities I have baked and you can decide if you want to venture by on the way home from work/school or whatnot. I’m not going to bake a crazy amount as I’m not sure how many would come as they aren’t used to a Friday bread shed! Thank you all! 🥰

PSA: ❤️ Hope you’re all enjoying the beautiful day bread peeps! Just wanted to pop on and say something quick. I very often get asked if I do or if I would put cheese in the sourdough/yeasted bread. So I thought I should address this for everyone.

Each town in Massachusetts interprets MA cottage residential bakery law differently. Every department in every town interprets MA law differently for that matter - no matter what field of expertise.

The Royalston health dept. does not permit me to put cheese, fresh veg, fresh fruit or fresh herbs into bread (I am allowed to use dried fruit, dried herbs, seeds in bread). That’s why there is no cream cheese frosting on cinnamon rolls! 😞

My menu is completely designed around what I am permitted to do in Royalston. I have to work with what I’ve got! My health inspector is a lovely lady BTW and I like her very much! She has even given me a guinea fowl! Some towns in MA are FAR more strict in what they allow than Royalston and many towns in Massachusetts don’t allow residential kitchens period. That is how they choose to interpret the state law.

If you hanker for a delicious jalapeño & cheddar, everything bagel & cheddar, cream cheese & blueberry, bacon & cheddar, etc. etc., there is Kneadful Treats in Gardner (she’ll be back from maternity break soon) or Bacon Street in Westminster. They are both licensed residential kitchens whose towns permit the use of these items. Their bread flavors rotate and they both have a focus on sourdough products. I haven’t tried them but they look really yummy on Instagram! I totally get that you’d want to eat this!

I do highly recommend making a grilled cheese sandwich from any of my savory sourdoughs! Soooo good! ❤️
