Memorial Day is about more than cookouts and long weekends. It is about remembering the brave men and women who laid down their lives for this country and honoring those who still choose to serve others every single day, often without recognition, praise, or thanks.

Today, Crosswynd Farms especially wants to recognize people like Jim and Jordyn Lynch The ones who believe in doing things the right way even when nobody is watching. The ones who put service before themselves. The ones who quietly carry burdens most people will never understand.

Law enforcement, healthcare workers, first responders, military families, and so many others give pieces of themselves every day for people they may never even know. Sometimes those sacrifices are appreciated, and sometimes they are not. But a title, a position, or another person’s actions can never take away the kind of character built through hard work, integrity, and heart.

People do not always talk about how hard it is on the families either. As parents, there is nothing easy about watching your child walk out the door every day into careers where they put others before themselves and knowing there is always a chance things may not go the way you prayed they would. That kind of worry never leaves you.

Jordyn, no matter where life leads you, we are proud of you. Proud of the sacrifices you made in law enforcement, proud of the way you carried yourself, and proud that you still continue serving others every day through healthcare. Some people use power to build others up, and some use it to tear people down. But in the end, character always speaks louder.

To all those who serve quietly and continue showing up every day with strength and courage — we see you, and we thank you.

Story time… because I know everyone loves story time around here.

As y’all know, Cross has started hauling scrap. Well, I have quickly become his scrap metal partner. The first time he asked me to go with him he said, “How much are you gonna charge me?” I told him nothing. He said, “I want to pay you.” I said, “Okay… a breakfast date.”

Well, it has quickly become one of my favorite things to do… minus one little detail. Cross likes to get there when they OPEN the gate. Now anyone who really knows me knows I am not a morning person. I will be up, I will work, I will do whatever needs to be done… but before 10 AM I’m just not the biggest talker.

Jim figured that out years ago. He tells me he loves me, I tell him the same, and that’s about all the conversation I’ve got that early.

Well, there’s not exactly the best radio in the truck and when you’re hauling big loads, you kinda have to work together and communicate. Cross told Jim, “Daddy, Mama is fun to go with but it takes her awhile to talk to me in the mornings. She’s real quiet the first part of the trip.” And Jim said, “Oh, I’m well aware.”

Monday afternoon Cross said, “Mama, we’ve got a haul tomorrow morning but we’ve gotta leave even earlier than normal.” He wanted to take extra precautions and be extra safe with this load.

So Monday evening we see him pulling in the driveway and Pyper looks at me confused and says, “What IS that… a submarine?”

I knew it wasn’t a submarine… but honestly I agreed it sure looked like one. We walk outside and there stands Cross grinning ear to ear. He says, “What do y’all think?” I said, “Buddy, I’m proud of you… but what in the world is it?” He said, “It’s the mixer off a concrete truck.”

So Tuesday morning off we went. He was so careful hauling that thing and took his time the whole trip. It made the drive longer, but I was proud of him for doing it right and safe.

We pull into the scrap yard and usually it’s pretty quick… not this time, It took two men coming out to look at it and figure out the safest way to get that giant drum off the trailer. They finally got it unloaded safely and afterwards Cross took me on my breakfast date.

Now when you’ve got a trailer behind you, finding somewhere to eat isn’t always easy, so we usually end up at Hardee’s. And honestly, in all my years of eating Hardee’s breakfast, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed it more than I have these past few weeks riding around with him.

These little moments mean more to me than he probably realizes. Watching your kids work hard, be responsible, stay safe, and build something of their own is one of the best feelings in the world.

And if you look closely in the picture… Cross has another hauling buddy who LOVES going with him too. Any guesses who it is?

Like Cross said Monday night…
“Big or small, we do it all!”

What do you eat for breakfast when you have a lot of laundry detergent and body scrub to make?

Oh and more planting that needs done?

I grab a cookie that I made last night and keep going. 😂

It’s been a quiet week on here, but not a quiet week on the farm. We’ve been busy behind the scenes.

Jordyn snapped this picture of “The Colonel” and shared it with me. He’s our rooster that thinks he’s a duck and would rather stay with them than the chickens.

I finally finished up our body scrub and it will be ready for purchase next week with lots of scent choices.

We got business cards… and I’m not even going to lie, I about cried. It may seem small, but it means so much to see everything we’ve been building start to come together.

We’ve also added a few new friends to the farm. I’ll be introducing them soon… any guesses?

On top of all that, I’ve been working on a styled shoot that Jordyn Photography was asked to do. Pyper Lynch Cosmetologistwill be featured, along with some Crosswynd Farms pieces. The best part for me was Jordyn Lynch giving me the reins on the planning, organizing, and some of the decorating. It may be her shoot, but getting to bring the event side of it to life meant more than I can put into words.

Everything happens for a reason… but it takes a family that’s willing to pull together and work hard to see it through. I am so blessed to have mine.

Today is a very special day around Crosswynd Farms. We want to wish all the mamas out there a very Happy Mother’s Day, but today is also about celebrating our very own Pyper on her 22nd birthday. ❤️

Pyper Rosette Lynch was born on May 10, 2004, a month early weighing 6 lbs 12 oz — a chubby cheeked, beautiful, healthy baby girl who entered this world already determined to do things her own way and in her own time… very much “Pyper fashion.”

I got to pick her first name, Pyper, after the show Charmed. Piper was the strong middle sister, but of course I had to change the “i” to a “y.” Her middle name, Rosette, was picked by Jim after his mama. I never got the chance to meet her, but Jim always says his mama prepared him to be Pyper’s daddy because they are so much alike. He always says his mama will live on as long as Pyper is alive. To this day, Pyper’s favorite flower is still a rose.

Her daddy affectionately calls her his “project,” and honestly anyone who knows Pyper knows she is truly one of a kind. Talented, beautiful, quick witted, stubborn as all get out, and completely unbothered by what anyone thinks. She moves to the beat of her own drum — thankfully a drum Jim somehow fully understands. We all try, but he is definitely the master at speaking “Pyper.”

She has always been a daddy’s girl, but she is also my Disney loving, travel buddy, animal loving, hard working girl who loves good food and loves hard. Life would not be life without her.

Pyper has fought through more health challenges than most people ever realize, and she just keeps fighting her way to the other side stronger every single time. She is hands down one of the toughest people I have ever known.

You are an amazing little sister and the best big sister. Although… I will say Cross being so much like you is all your fault. 😂 I love watching him give you a fit because you just laugh and say, “I know, he’s just like me and it’s my fault.” Yep… you’re right.

No matter how hard headed you are, we love you more than words can say and are unbelievably proud of the woman you have become.

And now for one of my favorite Pyper stories…

Anyone who knows Pyper knows she LOVES Mr. Smee. She named her dog after him and finally got to meet the real Mr. Smee at Disney. Well… we were walking back into the resort that afternoon and all of a sudden we heard Pyper SCREAM “MR. SMEE!!!” I mean scream.

Before we could even process what was happening, she took off running through the lobby like a linebacker chasing a championship. Forget soccer player — she turned into a full blown NFL player. She jumped, shoved through the crowd, scared several innocent children half to death, and nearly took everyone out trying to get to him.

No, she didn’t hurt anyone, but those poor kids definitely thought she had lost her mind. Meanwhile we were the family sprinting behind her wondering what in the world was happening.

But she got that picture with Mr. Smee. Then she calmly came back to reality apologizing to everyone and explaining just how much it meant to her. Most people probably still thought she was crazy… but honestly, that may have been one of the happiest moments I’ve ever seen in her life.

And that, right there, is our Pyper.

Happy 22nd Birthday, Pyper Rosette Lynch. We love you more than you know.
