🤍🌷Happy Mother’s Day🌷🤍
Today I’m thinking of every kind of mother.
The mothers holding babies in their arms.
The mothers holding memories in their hearts.
The stepmothers, grandmothers, chosen mothers, grieving mothers, exhausted mothers, healing mothers, single mothers, and the women who mother others through love alone.
You are seen. You are valued. You are deeply loved. 🤍
Mother’s Day actually began with two women whose hearts were rooted in love, loss, peace, and community.
In 1870, Julia Ward Howe wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation,” a call for mothers to unite and advocate for peace after the devastation of war. She believed mothers carried the power to nurture not only children, but humanity itself.
Years later, Anna Jarvis officially established Mother’s Day in 1908 to honor her own mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, who had devoted her life to caring for mothers, children, and families in her community after losing many of her own children and not wanting to see other families suffer the same pain. After losing her mother, Anna wanted there to be a day dedicated to recognizing the quiet, selfless love mothers give every single day. 🤍🤍
What started as remembrance, service, grief, peace, and love became the holiday we know today.
So today, whether this day feels joyful, complicated, painful, beautiful, or all of the above… I hope you know your love matters deeply. The care you pour into others leaves fingerprints on generations. 🤍🫶🏻
