I have a special story for you…around 10 years ago, we were sitting on my parent’s deck, on my dads birthday, trying to figure out what to do for the latest shop predicament: our cakes were getting booked up 3-4 weeks in advance at Avon Lake, and we were turning soooo many orders down bc we simply didn’t have the space, it made us sick to our stomachs. My dad looked at me and said, well do you want to drive around and see if we can find another spot for a location? I said sure, why not 🤷🏼♀️ We drove to Rocky River first, as we used to live there and knew it would be a great spot if we could find an open space. About 3 minutes off of the highway, we saw the space available sign here and thought, “hmm that could make a good spot…I didn’t realize that spot was available right now.” We called the number, met the landlord that day, walked around and said this could be good, let’s think about it. (AKA maybe we should actually flesh out the idea of having another shop/do we really want that?). We said thanks, and headed home. TWO HOURS LATER, we get a call from the landlord and find out, he had literally put the sign up THAT MORNING, and he now had 4 other people ready to sign who wanted the space, but he said we had seen it first, so we had first dibs. The catch was we needed to tell him yes or no in 24 hours 😱😳 My dad and I went to Flip Side, had a burger, and talked through all the options. I remember crying because I had expressed how I really just wanted to have a life outside of work (my days were long and hard at Avon Lake and I was fried, often being there till 2am decorating cakes Friday nights), and meet someone, get married, etc., but that I just felt like God had put us there that morning out of the blue, only hours after the sign had gone up, on his birthday, for a reason. So inevitably, we called him the next day, and the rest is history. 1 year later, Nick’s opening line to me was asking about the squirrel that always came to our RR shop before we would open to get a broken macaron shell 🥲 God just knows. His plans are so much better than mine 🌸 I love you Rocky River, you have been so, so good to us 💗
