Tanzania Well Project update: Several weeks ago, I posted about former Ebenezer Church Pastor Jim King helping spearhead a project to get an additional clean drinking water well for a remote Tanzanian village he visited a few years back. At the time of that visit, adult villagers were regularly walking several hours a day to a relatively dry creek bed to get brackish water, at best. What’s more, with little adult supervision left in the village, as these other adults were off on these daily water quests, occasionally, a wild animal would enter the village and kill a child. Almost unimaginable, but a tragic reality for them.

King, a former BHS and BC grad, was so moved, he marshaled a drive to raise money for a clean drinking water well to be dug in the village. This was, indeed, successful, and the well was installed a couple years ago. *See photos. King has now launched another fundraiser for an additional well for the village, including all the ancillary parts, etc. The target is $20,000 — and he reported to me today that $5,300 has already been raised. As the accompanying article notes, King, who was also a long time Youth For Christ Director here, is sold out to Christ’s gospel message, and those villagers in Tanzania could see that clearly in him, and it has had quite a spiritual impact there as well. The whole thing has been a combination of providing both physical water, and spiritual “living water.” (Note: JKI stands for Jami Kawanza Initiative. “Jami Kawanza is Swahili for: “Village First.”)
