Suzanne's Swiss Bakery and More Suzanne's Swiss Bakery. Homemade, fresh, delicious. Swiss classic baked goodies with much love and dedication. usually every Saturday. Dankeschoen :-)

The Story behind Suzanne’s Swiss Bakery:
One of the things I missed when I immigrated to America in 2008 was the crunchiness of Swiss breads. This was the starting point for me to bake my own Zopf breads in my new found home in Ottumwa Iowa. Since 2011 I have been privileged to make much of Switzerland at the Annual International Festival in Ottumwa IA and the World Cultures Festival in the Quad C

ities with my baked goods and the support of prominent Swiss companies like Ricola, Emmi Cheeses, Frey Chocolates, Victorinox etc. In 2014 I decided to establish my bakery out of my home in Ottumwa until I moved to Rock Island IL in the fall of 2015. I continue to bake joyfully and pursue new opportunities here in the Quad Cities.

2021/2022 In April 2021 I decided to step away from the Freighthouse Farmers' Market and take a break and take time to reflect. In 2022 I started a Fundraiser Bake Sale because I would like to own a small food truck. For this reason I was offering some baked goods at my husbands Antique Store in Milan IL (Olde Barn Vintage, Antiques and Things). In late August 2022 we moved our store from Milan to Moline and so I made a good decision to take part in the QC Farmers' Market at Schwiebert Park in Rock Island. During the winter time I am there every Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm and now that the office season has started, I continue to sell joyfully every Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm. Please be on the lookout for weekly posts I make.

Homemade truly is better.

Now I’m not only teaching how to create things like puff pastry and almond paste from scratch, but also sharing how to take charge of your health, wellness, and nutrition.

At first, my husband didn’t want to try these—he assumed they’d be too hard, stick to his teeth, and take forever to clean off. But after finally sampling one last night, he was pleasantly surprised. This morning, with a sparkle in his eyes, he said they’re amazing. He went on to say they’re gentle on the tongue, enjoyable to eat, and best of all, they don’t stick to his teeth at all 😬👍

Oh this reminded me so much of my own journey here in the USA. Got a little sentimental watching it. Oh well, if the Lord wills I could start something again ❤️🇨🇭❤️

Back again where it all started in 2009. I remember one client came in and asked me if he could give me a hug because he was so emotional remembering the Lowenberg bakery years ago and the pleasant smell of freshly baked bread hovering over Ottumwa. In the meantime I am friends with the owner’s granddaughter that also lives in the QC.

First time after my hand surgery in November I was back in the basement bakery today. Made puff pastry from scratch and almond paste for the Helvetic Crosses. Bringing them to Ottumwa Iowa this weekend from where they were inspired by David Ardüser. You can purchase these to support our mission trip to Europe.

Through one of my families I serve I received some peanut butter, frosted cornflakes and strawberry fruit spread they picked up from a food pantry. They did not have any use for, so I thought I am going to add some unsalted butter, confectioners sugar, and chocolate chips and make treat bags to educate my families. Firstly, how to use these ingredients for themselves, but secondly also to prepare them and give them out to their friends and neighbors.

I want to be remembered as the joyful and kind Swiss baker. Made some of these Swiss Classics and will give them away them to the nurses at the birth unit of MercyOne Genesis as I visit new moms through my job as a family support worker.
